Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Nothing personal intended ... just commenting that those threads tend to include a bunch of gratuitous personal attacks, insults, etc. You know, as if there were an Extra Attacker "on the ice."

And I certainly did not intend to imply an ignorance of acronymia on your part.

You NESCACians just don't get it... do you?

Yeah, I do.

In fact, enjoyed the gracious hospitality (and cheap beers) at the Elmira Booster Club between periods on my visit to the domes, some time ago.

Won't presume to speak for the rest of the bunch.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

According to Potsdam LiveStats, Plattsburgh leads Potsdam 6-1 at the end of two. Plattsburgh is outshooting the Bears 41-11.

EDIT:

Potsdam 2

FINAL (Shots Plattsburgh 56-18)

how about that Manhattanville/Neumann tie last night. Is Mville down this year?

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Is it just me...or have there been an inordinate number of games so far this year where teams are heavily outshooting their opponents only to lose those games?

For example:

Score By Periods 1st 2nd 3rd Final
Utica 0 0 3 3
Williams 0 1 0 1

Shots On Goal 1st 2nd 3rd Total
Utica 7 7 10 24
Williams 16 12 15 43

Last UC goal was EN.

Or outshooting heavily and being close

ex: Gustavus 2 SOG 48 St Olaf 1 SOG 16
Lake Forest 1 SOG 36 CSS 1 SOG 16

and M'ville has had it's share...

NEC got outshot by them 43 -17 and beat them 5 - 3 or the game you eluded to earlier where M'ville outshot Nuemann 36-24 and it ended in a 2-2 OT tie.

That's gotta be getting old...

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Just asking.... To those of you who HAVE BEEN AT THESE GAMES with the lopsided SOG's. Are these shots being counted by credible minor officials or students/adults with little or no knowledge of the correct definition of a shot on goal? Could goalie statistic padding be going on? Just asking.

Was at Norwich/Platty. Wouldn't feel TOTALLY comfortable saying it was 43-12...but no more than a +/- 3 or 4 or so. I GUESS I have faith in who was counting them ;) I guess this obviously isn't goalie padding, since it was the home team getting all the shots. Norwich goalies could have used some more shots to make it look better at least

I assure you I'm well aware of the definition of a shot on goal. But please be advised, at times you have to rely on your spotter when you're looking down at the computer and inputing something. One pair of eyes can only do so much. My co-workers are well-versed in the defintion of a shot on goal as well so I can tell you we call it like we see them and don't pay any attention to stat padding. Like NYI said, if anything we made our goalies stats worse.

Just out of curiosity Prez, do you count a shot off the iron as a SOG?

No. A shot off the iron counts as a shot but NOT a shot on goal.

A shot on goal is described as shot at the net with intent to shoot that would have gone into the net if the goalie did not stop it.

If the puck was going wide of the net and the goalie makes a pretty glove save, as nice as it looks, it's not a shot on goal or a save unfortunately.

There are scorekeepers that count every shot as long as the goalie touches it a shot on goal and that is not correct.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

... unless it goes in??

You got it right. :D I think Prez's definition of a SOG when stopped by the goalie constitutes a save, but SOGs include his definition PLUS any puck that makes its way across the line without being disqualified for being kicked or high stick or other illegal method. All scores are SOGs regardless of intent.

For what it's worth, this is from WikiAnswers (not to be confused with WikiLeaks):

"A shot on goal is any shot that enters the net or any shot that would normally have entered the net if not stopped by the goalie. Shots that deflect off the posts or crossbar and stay out of the net are not counted as shots on goal. The number of shots and whether a shot puck counts as a shot is determined by a statistician employed by the NHL who is stationed at the rink.

"Yes, a goal counts as a shot on net. However it obviously does not count as a save for the goalie."

Why does something in me feel like TAS counts a pipe as a SOG? Although it's been two weeks since I've done a game so I could just not be remembering correctly lol
