D3 Hockey is back!

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

Plattsburgh leads Elmira 4-1 in the third! Make that 5-1, now 6-1!..now 7-1! and that's the final score....

Great weekend for the Plattsburgh men and women....both on the road, both win two!

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

Any question who is #1???
The Cardinals have a great coach, are an amazing team and just seem to get better as the season progresses.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

I don't know. That Prattsburgh team looked pretty good. They could easily challenge for the #1 spot.....

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

Plattsburgh finishes it off with a 7-1 win.

1) Does this sweep of Elmira put Adrian up to #2 considering they won both of their games?

2) Does this make Elmira more dangerous come ECAC and NCAA tournament time? They're going to want to prove that they're better than this....

3) If Ziesmann misses games, how will Plattsburgh adjust defensively? She's an important player, and their extra defender Elizabeth Viola has only played 6 games. Delay and Hoskins have been impressive as freshmen, so I imagine the adjustment of minutes would see them play an even bigger role.

My (admittedly quick) research tells me the six goals is the worst margin of defeat in Elmira history and the seven goals ties their most allowed in a game (2006 vs. M'ville, 7-3 L)

.

My Guess is:
1. Plattsburgh
2. Adrian
3. Lake Forest (Really they should be #2)
4. Elmira
5. Probably Amherst/Middlebury
6. Amherst/Middlebury
7-10 crapshoot St Thomas/River Falls should drop after their poor showings this weekend

IMO,I cannot see LF ahead of Elmira. Although their W/L record is better, Elmira's SOS is #1 while LF is 12th. LF's only loss is to Middlebury. Elmira's losses are two to number 1 Plattsburgh and one to Adrian. There is no way Lake Forest should be number two, but we don't vote and stranger things have happened.

This is always my argument and maybe the lack of understanding of SOS or forgetting the overinflation of records out east which causes SOS to be higher than it really is. I'm really curious where you are getting that Elmira has the #1 ranked strength of schedule where Lake Forest is 12th from??

The "good" teams Elmira has played...Adrian, Norwich (x2), Middlebury, Amherst and Plattsburgh. (i'm not including Gustavus, they have a losing record.)

Lost To Adrian and Plattsburgh (x2)
Tied Amherst
Beat Norwich twice...but is that really a good win? Yes Norwich is 13-6...but they play in the 2nd easiest conference with no competition and have lost to anyone that is good.
Beat Middlebury...who did beat Lake Forest in a close game.

Is that really a tough schedule? I know you can say the same about Lake Forest...there only "quality" games are against Adrian and Middlebury. Beat Adrian-handily-(who beat Elmira) and lost to Middlebury. However, I'd say playing the other teams in the NCHA (besides Finlandia) is a significantly bigger challenge than playing the "slop" that rounds out the ECAC-W.

I know its hard to say which team deserves to be higher...but really the poll comes down to, what have you done lately. Elmira just got their rear handed to them by Plattsburgh, Adrian/Lake Forest are on 14 and 7 game winning streaks respectively.

And now i'm sure some idiot like crosscheck will come in and say the cliche'd "The only poll that matters is the one at the end."

All of the information for SOS, Rank and other info can be found in the KRACH rankings. These numbers are updated with the latest info on a daily basis. Even todays games are already factored in. http://www.uscho.com/rankings/krach/d-iii-women/

I was looking for that, but was looking under rankings...which they don't show up when you hover over the rankings link...but see that they are listed under D3 women...weird.

I do wonder how much they add in for playing east of Lake Michigan though :)

Just a quick clarification... I am advised that Plattsburgh defenseman Elizabeth Viola, is not an extra defenseman. She is actually out of game action as a result of a torn ACL suffered earlier this season. She will unfortunately miss the rest of the season and will not be available to shore up the Cardinal defense core.

This is just the math....no human input...that is actually what is wrong with the KRACH!

I didn't realize that. I'm hoping she has a full recovery and is ready for next season.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

While I think it's admirable for what's left of the team to 'not quit', getting outshot 193-10 and out scored 30-0 is not playing hockey! That is survival for 60 minutes, nothing more! Look at their previous games way too many 10+ goal losses. It's not a matter of safety it's a matter of integrity. Next year go play ACHA and regroup

So cancel the Olympics?

Who said anything about cancelling D3 hockey? Those teams have a full roster, qualified to play in tourney and face relegation based on performance. If DW can field a full roster let them stay, other D3 teams have lost every game in the season (Finlandia/Chatham). I couldn't care less if they lose every game but similar to Slovakia beating Bulgaria 82-0 that's not hockey.
