D3 Hockey is back!

This is always my argument and maybe the lack of understanding of SOS or forgetting the overinflation of records out east which causes SOS to be higher than it really is. I'm really curious where you are getting that Elmira has the #1 ranked strength of schedule where Lake Forest is 12th from??

The "good" teams Elmira has played...Adrian, Norwich (x2), Middlebury, Amherst and Plattsburgh. (i'm not including Gustavus, they have a losing record.)

Lost To Adrian and Plattsburgh (x2)
Tied Amherst
Beat Norwich twice...but is that really a good win? Yes Norwich is 13-6...but they play in the 2nd easiest conference with no competition and have lost to anyone that is good.
Beat Middlebury...who did beat Lake Forest in a close game.

Is that really a tough schedule? I know you can say the same about Lake Forest...there only "quality" games are against Adrian and Middlebury. Beat Adrian-handily-(who beat Elmira) and lost to Middlebury. However, I'd say playing the other teams in the NCHA (besides Finlandia) is a significantly bigger challenge than playing the "slop" that rounds out the ECAC-W.

I know its hard to say which team deserves to be higher...but really the poll comes down to, what have you done lately. Elmira just got their rear handed to them by Plattsburgh, Adrian/Lake Forest are on 14 and 7 game winning streaks respectively.

And now i'm sure some idiot like crosscheck will come in and say the cliche'd "The only poll that matters is the one at the end."

Have you watched Marian and Concordia. While I don't like the reference to teams as slop, those two and add St. Scholastica this year are less than world beaters. Each conference has 2 power teams then the rest are pretty close capable of being competitive any day other than Finlandia.

I have and I would take them over Chatham, Potsdam, Neumann and William Smith any day.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

Hey you idiot...nobody cares. nobody cares. Now go crawl back under your rock, or get back under your trollbridge.

He asked...I answered. Go cry to someone else.

Again...I love the concept of you referring to someone as a troll.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

My Guess is:
1. Plattsburgh
2. Adrian
3. Lake Forest (Really they should be #2)
4. Elmira
5. Probably Amherst/Middlebury
6. Amherst/Middlebury
7-10 crapshoot St Thomas/River Falls should drop after their poor showings this weekend

As I was saying, LOL:

IMO,I cannot see LF ahead of Elmira. Although their W/L record is better, Elmira's SOS is #1 while LF is 12th. LF's only loss is to Middlebury. Elmira's losses are two to number 1 Plattsburgh and one to Adrian. There is no way Lake Forest should be number two, but we don't vote and stranger things have happened.

It has taken me a while, but most times can guess how these voters think.

Overall records look pretty much the same to me!! Saints and Bears have each had a couple competitive games vs higher ranked teams, Platty/Elmira vs Lake Forest/Adrian. Put St. Norbert in vs Utica/Oswego the conferences are playing out like a 3 tiered cake!!

Chatham 6-11-1 Marian 6-13
Potsdam 6-12-2 Concordia 7-13-1
Cortland 9-7-1 St. Scholastica 6-12
William Smith 7-10-2 Finlandia 0-19
Neumann 4-14-1

As Scott posted, the other poll has Lake Forest at #2. I guess I'm better at that one!

The funny thing to me is the "others recieving votes"

Stevens Point I can see...
Utica--sweeping Potsdam and Neumann makes them top 10 worthy?
St Norbert--swept by Adrian...lets give them a vote!
Superior--they did beat River Falls but are .500...so no.

When the other poll first started, I paid a lot of attention to it. But for the last year, it has been erratic on both the women's and men's side. I am not sure what criteria the voters on that one use, but it seems to be focused only on the current week and does not take any other factors into consideration.

Back under the Bridge, Cubby.

As for the top 10 list...I really can't say I disagree with how they ranked anyone this week. The list of "others receiving votes" is typically the coach and his/her pals just trying to get their team noticed....yawn.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

I don't have a beef with either poll. The right team is at the top (yeah, I know, really hard decision there). The talk about Adrian-Lake Forest is not relevant at this point, either, because they'll settle things themselves in Adrian on Feb 19-20, and then maybe one more time a couple weeks later.

totally agree.

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

Did anyone see the Middlebury vs. Norwich game last night?
Was the box score correct?...not many shots on goal?

If those are accurate that has to be some of the most efficient scoring I've ever heard of.

Since I'm the one that put it together, I can tell you that it's accurate to the best of my two eyes and my spotters eyes! :)

It was a very defensive game with A LOT of shots blocked and wide by both teams playing tight defense. After Middlebury dominated a good portion of the first period, a lot of the game was played in the neutral zone.

I did not watch it all, but what I did see was very consistent with Prez's recap. There were many shots taken that were not shots on goal because of blocks and deflections away from the net. I also thought the officials let them play and defense took over on both sides.

ok....either very efficient shooting, or.....

Re: D3 Hockey is back!

There were shots....but not a high number of shots on goal. A team could hit the crossbar 5 times and the pipes 5 times and that is 0 shots on goal ! A shot on goal must be a stop by the goalie.
