Hamilton Continentals 1 Oswego 1 after 2.
Not remembering if these teams are "Slop" or not, but a good up and down game.
And Oswego wins 2 to 1. The Lakers had an edge in stick handling, but Hamilton was capable of sustained pressure.
According to certain morons here, yes, Hamilton is Slop. according to me...not so much.
Umm they just lost to Oswego....
Plattsburgh-Castleton tied 0-0 after 1....Plattsburgh leading on shots 21-7 and huge territorial advantage.
Plattsburgh 1 Castleton 0 after 2 Shots 41-12 Plattsburgh
Final 4-0 Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh ended with 63 shots to 21 for Castleton
Umm they just lost to Oswego....
Keep twisting the argument all you want...I guess you have trouble reading and following along...
For the record, Oswego is hardly Slop...Not great for sure, but an average to above average D3 team. They have a winning record and also a few competitive scores already this year.
But to also think that the bottom NESCAC team's could and would compete for conference titles in other power conferences is just as absurd. The NESCAC are NOT all that bad, but they're not ALL that good either....
This has really been my point all along...
PSU--I'm really just trying to irritate crosschick as much as possible.
If anyone is trying to claim that their conference is as deep as the NESCAC, it's a tough argument to make. But to also think that the bottom NESCAC team's could and would compete for conference titles in other power conferences is just as absurd. The NESCAC are NOT all that bad, but they're not ALL that good either....
As for the admissions statements...I very much doubt that if faced with a choice between say...Hamilton or Middlebury vs. Elmira or Cortland...that any girl would choose the latter 2
Does anyone know if Colonial Division has an auto bid ? They have enough teams to qualify but my god it's awful hockey right now! Is this even a good idea putting all these weak and newer teams in one division? Why not spread them around and let them be bottom feeders until they build a good team. Right now some pretty weak hockey teams look like world beaters with their records!
The end all is that the NESCAC is made up of mostly B to B+ teams with little to no C- type teams. The ECAC West is made up of 2 A+ teams, a couple B to B- teams, a couple C teams and a couple D to D- teams.
With all do respect, I'm not sure how fair it is to compare a conference who's members have had a varsity womens team around on average 11 years to a conference who's members have been playing on the average double that time (22 years).
Secondly, the whole "admission" horse crap we deal with on the men's side is just that. No doubt NESCAC schools on average have a harder and more difficult admission standard, but do you know every player on Plattsburgh, Oswego, Buff State, Cortland? How do you know that the majority of those girls couldn't have made the NESCAC Admissions? I DO know several players who probably have higher admission standard results then some of the almighty NESCAC'ians. Toss in the fact that being a private school, they also have some wiggle room in some things. There have been several well documented publishings on the NESCAC/Private School Admissions and getting around things (cost, grades). I will always point to the Middlebury Men's Captain years ago who openly admitted if it wasn't for his hockey skill, he never could have gone to Middlebury (both grade wise and cost). There are also a couple good books that go into even more detail.
Last, for those who have been around college hockey for a "few" years can remember pretty much what women's hockey is currently. The Men's league was dominated by a select few, of which dominated by double digits several "slop" teams. The ECAC West Womens is much like the Men's SUNYAC of the 90s. Dominated by 1 or 2 teams and several 8 to 10 goal wins. Two things happened,
1. Programs started to realize that you have to put money into a program to get wins (arena, recruiting, and the big one Financial Aid). Since teams (Brockport, Buff State) started putting money into their program they've become more competitive. Are they a power? No. But outside Middlebury and Amherst who in the NESCAC Women have done much (Bowdoin maybe). Teams like William and Smith will become better. Oswego and Utica have made strides. Probably not a top 1/3 in NESCAC but I highly doubt they would go 0-fer in Conference.
2. Pool Size - Let's face it, there are not as many quality women's players as there are men's. So the few "5 star" recruits are going to your typical DIII Powerhouses. More and more young girls are playing hockey and I do see this changing over the years, but there is simply not enough high end recruits to cover ALL teams when they want to go play for a winning traditional team.

"have higher admission standard results then some of the almighty NESCAC'ians"
THAN, not then! You're giving him ammunition! Lol.
Other than that, good post. A couple of us have said basically the same things. The NESCAC is the best conference in terms of balance from top to bottom. The other conferences have much bigger gaps of talent from best team to worst team. Some leagues are more diluted than a few years back, etc. Also, I'm not sure there's such a thing as a "power conference" in women's D3 like the WCHA in D1.
2 years then the AQ. And if they'd be cannon fodder in the other conferences, why?Does anyone know if Colonial Division has an auto bid ? They have enough teams to qualify but my god it's awful hockey right now! Is this even a good idea putting all these weak and newer teams in one division? Why not spread them around and let them be bottom feeders until they build a good team. Right now some pretty weak hockey teams look like world beaters with their records!
I could care less about him....someone with those kind of attitudes are rarely worth your time.
and sorry I should have been more specific. By "power conference" I meant every conference besides the Colonial Conference.....
