D3 Hockey is back!

Anybody else see this? Canton beat Daniel Webster 12-2 tonight. Shots were 42-14 for Canton. Canton isn't even a good program. The biggest thing is DW only had 12 players dressed with 3 of them being goalies! Their roster shows 14 total players but 4 of them are goalies. Wow, this is going to be a complete disaster. We have a new bottom of the barrel in D3 women's hockey. Teams like Finlandia, Plymouth State, and Chatham should be calling to get games with them. Guaranteed wins for sure. There's no way they'll win a single game this year or maybe ever until they realize what a mistake this was and they scrap the program entirely. With so few players on the team the real question is will they even be able to complete this season or not. A few injuries here and there will have a devastating impact. This is not good for the D3 women's game no matter how you look at it.

You're right that's a really bad look. I'm hoping that this is temporary and they can bring in some more bodies somehow and make a go of it. What is the point of four goalies? How does a coach manage to recruit four goalies but not enough skaters?

Take a look at Johnson & Wales. They roster 16 players including 3 goalies and skated against Endicott with 2 lines and 4 D last night. http://collegehockeystats.net/1516/boxes/wendj_w1.n06

In Daniel Webster's defense, they scored more goals today than Neumann did.

Plattsburgh tore through Neumann today 8-0.

Except Canton is nowhere near the team Plattsburgh is as shown by the fact that Daniel Webster scored against them at all this weekend including a shorthanded goal. If DW played Platty they wouldn't get a shot on goal. I'd say Neumann could take DW too.

I like what JWU is doing - even though the current results are less than ideal. Why bring in 20 freshmen and cut as you bring in new recruits? Start with 10, add 5 next year and 5 the year after and keep going with 5 every year.

It stinks now, but by the time the CHC had its AQ, they should be in good shape.

Are you certain that is the plan or could they not get enough players?

Plattsburgh dropped 76 shots on Neumann with 8 different goal scorers to sweep the series with a 9-1 win. They take on Chatham in Pittsburgh next weekend, but I find the matchup with Castleton on 11/24 more intriguing. Castleton is unbeaten so far, and they're coached by one of Plattsburgh all-time great forwards in Steph Moberg.

The pressure finally got to CUW in the 3rd. The shots and chances were both slanted quite heavily to Adrian. But for some reason, over the years, both SNC and CUW have given Adrian fits.

Lol.

A team like Plattsburgh could win with only 10 skaters and a goalie but a school like Daniel Webster isn't going to draw top players to it anytime in the foreseeable future so there's no way for them to win with average to below average players. No offense to the players themselves. They all went to where there was an opportunity for them to play.

He probably could have changed the goalies on the fly too if he wanted to. Unfortunately for Neumann Casey Handrahan (who is as arrogant as his brother Nate) basically killed that program because he knew he didn't want to stay in D3 for too long. He was using it as a stepping stone to D1. The two coaches since him have inherited his mess. Hopefully now they will have some stability in that position for the next 4-5 years so they can get back to as good as they used to be. Now they're unfortunately a joke. I bet it's tough to regain the reputation as a pretty good team once that reputation has been lost like it is for now. Now it's fighting the double whammy of being a weak school academically and a weak program athletically.

They already started the backup goalie Sunday. Plattsburgh has quite a few underclassmen throughout the lineup to integrate, can't blame them for not easing up.

Superior at St Thomas tonight.

Should be a pretty good game. Will let us know if Superior is legit this year or not. I mean they did outscore Finlandia 16-1.
