D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Upset alert in Brunswick...

End of 2: Bowdoin leads #3 Norwich 1-0.

Stephanie Ludy with the lone goal of the game. Kayla Lessard playing very impressivly in between the pipes for Bowdoin.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

I mentioned it in regards to River Falls and I saw Obserbear mentioned it in the NESCAC thread. Laughlin played our #2 goaltender today...and we lost. When every game matters is it good to play your backup in these situations? It wasn't like Lake Forest rolled over yesterday. I understand you want to get them game experience, but is that better saved for the finlandia game?? This loss could cost you the post season, because you decided to play your 2nd stringer...I just don't get it.

I wondered the same thing. I also read the NESCAC thread and every game seems to be tough and critical in the ncha. With a win today UWS would
have controlled their own destiny.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Bowdoin still leads Norwich 1-0 with 5:50 left in the 3rd.

Both goalies playing extraordinarily well in this penalty-marred game.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Tori Charron ties the game with 1:46 left and we're now in OT in Brunswick.

3:35 to go in OT.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Final from Brunswick:

#3 Norwich:1
Bowdoin:1

Charron with NU goal and Ludy with Bowdoin goal.

SOG were 37-29 Norwich. Both goalies played absolutely phenominal for both teams.

Fisk with 28 saves and Lessard with 36.

Bowdoin now 4-1-1 on the year and Norwich is 6-1-3.

ncha logjam

ncha logjam

I was just looking at the NCHA standings this morning and what a logjam. Seems right now no one is out of the running. With some of the results this
past weekend,(Adrian loss to St Norbert, Scholasticas sweep of Stevens Point, Lake Forest splitting with UWS, Eau Claire and UWRF both picking up two wins) it would seem that no one is guaranteed a spot. The Adrian vs UWS series will now be huge. Lake Forest looked to be out of the running but is
now just 2 points behind UWS with a game in hand on them and 3 games in hand on the other teams above them. Will make for a very interesting
second half of the schedule.

Re: ncha logjam

It's always fun to see what kind of roster changes are made for the second half of the year. Additions/Subtractions are made public soon, usually after finals are posted.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

GAC keeps it rolling with another close hard-fought win last night at UWRF.

Looks like they may have settled on a No. 1 possibly with Hibbard?

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Wanecke scores on the first Gustavus shot of the game on a feed from Christensen. Nice pinch at the blueline by, I think it was Hjelm to keep the puck in the zone.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Draayer makes it 2-0 on an unassisted backhand, up gloveside...worked behind the net, picked a RF D pocket. Hibbard looking sharp in the net for GA. RF able to control puck in GA zone much of the 2nd, but has nothing to show for it.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

PP goal makes it 2-1. RF had a 5x3 for close to a minute and scored after one player was out of the box. Hibbard made 2 saves but the puck was loose in a scrum at the top of the crease. Hjelm now off on a trip, so RF on the PP again.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

GA goal on the PP by Seebold...shot from the point through traffic with the rebound to Seebold. 3-1 GA 6:56 to go in the 3rd

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

EA goal makes it 3-2 but that is the final. GA hardly blew RF out, but they get the 2 wins over the second best team in the west. Does that make their case at 10-0-0, as the only unbeaten, untied DIII team, to be #1? GA is off until January 11, but will travel to Germany and Austria over the break, and will play 3 exhibitions in Europe.

No because they will just choke at the final four anyway!

It will be interesting to see what officials end up on ice in Superior come March. Watching streams of western contests it is obvious games are called differently in the NCHA and MIAC. Last night there were numerous bodies flying about that would have resulted in endless disruptions in the flow of the game were it played with ECAC (used by the NESCAC as well) refs. Casual contact, even into the boards (which has been whistled as a major in several games I have witnessed this season here in the east), particularly when it occurs away from the puck, just does not earn you a 2 minute time out. I am sure it is challenging to adapt your style of play to a different set of officiating parameters, come tournament time. Choking notwithstanding, of course...
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, and remember, the Polar Bears are coming!
