D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

There might have been 4:02 left on the clock. The goal came early in OT.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

What's with the ridiculous commercials in the middle of game play on the Adrian feed?

In typical Superior fashion...Yellowjacket's dominated play in the first period...couldn't get anything past Zeches and give up a goal off a bad rebound with a minute left in the period.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Superior on a 5 minute major...and now have a full 2-minute 5 on 3 in that major...they better get something done here!

Re: ncha logjam

Re: ncha logjam

Adrian goes up 3-0 early in the third...turning it off..i have better things to do than watch this!

And UWS will have a couple things to do this upcoming week as well:
5 on 3 PP and improving their shooting percentage. Nearly 90 shots this weekend...

Stewart nets four as Cardinals shut out Lakers BY RICKY ST. CLAIR

PLATTSBURGH — Shannon Stewart did something Saturday that only four players had accomplished in Plattsburgh State’s illustrious program history.

The Pickering, Ont., native totaled four goals, while Teal Gove added five points as the No.1-ranked Cardinals (12-0-1, 6-0 ECAC West) remained unbeaten by blanking Oswego State 8-0 at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.

The line of Stewart, Gove and Morgan MacInnis accumulated 12 points on the afternoon.

“It’s not easy getting four goals, especially as a sophomore, but I’m pretty excited,” Stewart said. “Our line did really well (Saturday). We’ve been working hard and have been together for over a year now, so the chemistry

is helping.”

Stewart showed on-ice versatility by beating Lakers (7-7-1, 6-3) starting goaltender Bridget Smith on two wrist shots from the top of the circle. Then, the second-year forward was found streaking through the neutral zone, beating Smith and replacement Tori Trovato with finesse moves on consecutive breakaway chances.

“She’s really come into her own and has been a difference-maker for us so far this year,” Plattsburgh coach Kevin Houle said. “She can really shoot the puck. She can shoot, she can score, and it was a great game for her.”

Smith, who had posted impressive numbers through 14 games with Oswego this season, was peppered with shots right from the get-go — facing 13 in the first period.

Stewart and Chelsea VanGlahn managed to cash in markers in an eight minute and 36-second span before Smith was yanked by coach Diane Dillon.

“We were pretty intimidated by looking at someone that tall (six-foot), and I can’t say we see that a lot,” Stewart said. “We didn’t play as good as we could’ve in the first, but we were fortunate to have the puck go in.”

Plattsburgh extended its advantage to 7-0 with Stewart’s fourth and final tally, while freshman Giovanna Senese was able to register her first colligate marker at the 18:28 mark.

Sydney Aveson was credited with the win between the pipes, fending off all 18 shots faced, while standing tall on multiple odd-man rush opportunities and a breakaway early in the second period to secure the shutout.

“I thought (Oswego) had some great chances to score and some real good looks in the first period off the rush, and she stood tall and made the saves when she had to,” Houle said. “And in the second…point blank right away and the breakaway shortly thereafter. If they score on those opportunities, or one of those opportunities, it’s a potentially a different game.”

After the eight-goal drubbing, the Cardinals will be back at it with the Lakers this afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest.

“We knew coming into these games that they’re just as big — if not bigger than Norwich because four conference points are on the line,” Stewart said. “It’s all about how you approach it mentally. I think if we work to our potential, we’ll be OK.”

Plattsburgh media guide from 10-11 shows three players (Gibson, Bowler, Kozar) as ones who have scored four goals in a game. Not sure who the fourth person is he referred to in the first paragraph. I checked boxes from the last two seasons. Didn't see any four-goal scorers.

I stand corrected. Van Glahn last season vs. Bowdoin.

Despite win, Cardinals can't match Saturday's performance
Oswego holds Plattsburgh State to just two goals day after eight-goal game

BY RICKY ST. CLAIR
Press-Republican
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State women’s hockey coach Kevin Houle will tell you “a win is a win,” but after a lopsided 8-0 victory Saturday, Sunday’s effort was not the one he was looking for.

The Cardinals (13-0-1, 7-0 ECAC West) received goals from Morgan MacInnis and Shannon Stewart in a 2-0 victory over Oswego State at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena Sunday.

“I’d like us to play with more confidence and tenacity,” Houle said. “I think mental toughness is a part of it. Oswego has some skilled kids up front, and when you’re not scoring and putting the puck away, they’re going to be in the game.

“I wasn’t overly thrilled with the effort (Saturday) either. I don’t think it was any better (Sunday). It’s a credit to them for working hard with a real short bench.”

Following a suffocating forecheck, an Oswego (7-8-1, 6-4) defenseman committed a turnover right in front of goaltender Bridget Smith early in the second period. MacInnis capitalized, sending home a loose puck and giving Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead at the 3:39 mark. Teal Gove and Stewart added assists on MacInnis’ fourth of the year, while the line accumulated 17 points on the weekend sweep.

“At times, I thought the forecheck was real good,” Houle said. “We spent a lot of time in their end. That goal was a situation where we had them in their own end for a while, and we had a lot of shifts like that. There are some positives, but certainly there are some things we need to do a lot better.”

Smith, who surrendered five goals before being pulled in Saturday’s game, kept Oswego within striking distance by standing tall on numerous occasions. The Cardinals were unable convert on shots in the low slot and second-chance scoring opportunities just outside the crease throughout the game.

Smith finished with 38 saves on 40 shots.

“She’s a big goalie, and she did a good job controlling rebounds and making the first save,” Houle said. “I think the difference was — (Saturday), we got a lot of chances on the rush and converted on two-on-one opportunities, but didn’t do that (Sunday). I kind of expected she’d play a lot better.”

Stewart collected a power play goal, her fifth tally of the weekend, at the 14:18 mark of the third period.

Gove fired a cross-ice pass to Allison Era on the blue line, who took a blast that redirected off the blade of Stewart’s stick and into the back of the net.

The Lakers were outshot, 14-4, in the final 20 minutes of regulation and could not sneak one past Sydney Aveson, who fended off all 15 shots for her third shutout of the season.

Plattsburgh finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while Oswego was 0-for-3.

The Cardinals play host to Williams in their second-to-last non-conference bout of the season Wednesday at 7 p.m. before challenging rival Elmira in a highly-anticipated ECAC West showdown Saturday and Sunday.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Interesting...I'm surprised Blanchard didnt score four at some point in her four years there...

Platty has had 8 players with 100 plus points and 9 players that scored over 50 goals in their career. Of those only two managed the feat of four goals in a game, just showing how rare this feat is.

The Platty leading scorers list looks like this:
Gibson........ 120 Goals ... 226 Points
Blanchard..... 87 Goals ... 177 points
Clarke.......... 76 Goals ... 152 points
Bowler......... 71 Goals ... 120 points
Moberg........ 59 Goals ... 133 points
Taylor......... 58 Goals ... 139 points
Gove........... 58 Goals ... 114 points * (Active, SR)
Moreau........ 58 Goals ... 109 points
DiJulio......... 52 Goals ... 88 points

So only two of these nine career Platty points/goals leaders have scored four in a game.
The other three that managed that feat don't have quite the same career stats (See below).
Stewart is a only Sophomore, and with her current numbers she could very well join the elite club of 50 Goals/100 Points.

Stewart...... 21 Goals ... 47 points * (Active, SO)
v Glahn....... 21 Goals ... 32 points * (Active, JR)
Kozar.......... 19 Goals ... 43 points (Only played 2 seasons, second season only partly)

Are you going based solely on goal-scoring for the scoring leaders? Steph Moon had 92 points, ahead of DiJulio, on 26 goals and 66 assists.

Criteria for inclusion was as stated in my post, the 100 point / 50 goal club. 100 points or more AND/OR 50 goals or more. DiJulio was the only one in the list of 9 that had more than 50 goals, but did not reach the 100 point plateau. Used the number of goals as the main guideline, as the discussion centered around scoring many goals in one game, and used 50 as the cut-off point.

Missed your criteria at the top. Was just asking for clarification. Thanks for the verbose response

Back to the subject - looks like there are 5 DIII games tonight. Salve and Trinity has the potential to be a good one.
