To say Elmira desperately needs this win is an understatement.
But this game is far from over as Middlebury has had the Soaring Eagles' number for quite awhile now.
Elmira has lost five straight to the Panthers and hasn't won since Stef McLean's OT winner in February 2005 that effectively gave Elmira the rights to hosting the Frozen Four that year once they won the ECAC West.
Middlebury got revenge though downing the Soaring Eagles 4-3 in one of the best D-III women's games I've ever seen.
Midd having trouble with bigger Elmira, particularly on the penalty kill. Midd speed creating chances, but they are unable to get much set up other than on their power play. Bloom made a great stop on DeBus, in 2x0, with a sliding pad save late in the 2nd. Really nice pass by Metcalf to Colehour streaking to top of the crease on the second Elmira goal, just before the end of the 2nd.
FINALLY Elmira gets the Middlebury monkey off their back and it couldnt have come at a better time.
HUGE win for the Soaring Eagles to hand the Panthers their first loss on Midd's home huge sheet of ice which should have played into Middlebury's hands.
Go get 'em tomorrow against the Amherst/Plattsburgh winner. Personally, I hope Amherst wins for sake of playing a different team but I wouldnt mind seeing the Cardinals again and I'm sure the EC girls wouldn't either after the way the first two meetings went down.
EC will get a chance at Amherst regardless when they host the Lady Jeffs later in the season.
Great game for freshman Caitlin Metcalf assisting on all three Soaring Eagle goals.
