Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

Crazy headline on Gustavus Women's Hockey Page

Women’s Hockey Sees 50-Match Conference Unbeaten String Come To End With 2-1 Loss To St. Thomas

I knew they had been dominant...but didn't realize that dominant over the last few years.

Anyone at Lake Forest, Stevens Point game to provide feedback?

Re: D3 Game Updates 2009-2010

2-2 tie... Gustavus dominated play for most of the game... both of their goals came in the first 4 minutes... most of St. Thomas shots came on PP...

Wow...nice 3 point weekend for St Thomas.

Excited for Superior at UST on Tuesday!

Lake Forest 6 UW-Stevens Point 1

Shots 44-24 in favor of Lake Forest

As I've mentioned before...the Forester line of Herring, Sauer, and Heron is ridiculously good. Herring had a hat trick in the 2nd period according to the box score...looks like that line was in on 4 of 6 goals.

I agree that that their top line is very good. It's actaully Herring, Herron and Switaj - Sauer is a D. But the strength of LFC this year is at the blueline They are able to move the puck out of their zone and jump in on the offensive zone. In the past, LFC has had to play a rope-a-dope style. Not this year. LFC played a very solid game. The Pointers did not. This 1st period set the tone with the Pointers in the box 5 times to LFC's 3. Not impressed with the ref's as they did not let the teams play in the 1st half of the game. Anybody that went down drew a penalty. No excuses. I just think it hurts the flow of any game when the refs call it too tight.

Never-the-less, LFC carried the play with a lot of hard work and determination. The Pointers just could not sustain control of the puck and did not match the Foresters' effort. d'Andra Phillips actually played a very solid game, even though she was pulled after the 4th goal. She had made several spectacular saves but did not get much help in the defensive zone.

It will be interesting to see the response of both teams in tomorrow's game and the games going forward. The Pointers have never lost by a 5 goal margin before. And LFC is now the hunted.
