D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

I think the only acceptable rule in the Olympics, or any tourney which uses goal differential, is to use goal differential in the FIRST PERIOD ONLY. That way, you can "run it up" in the 1st and still not embarrass a team in the long run.

An even worse rule is used in some tourneys (some that I've played in) that utilize the GF-GA rule along with a "running time rule" which mandates running time in a game with a 5 goal differential. Once running time begins it penalizes a team trying to exceed the GF-GA differential.

(by the way, I might have to change my username from elmira2 to 'elmira44')

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Where is the contradiction? Or are you just mixed up again?

QUOTE]

I'm certainly not mixed up. I have never backed off from my original statement about what you call "running up the score" and what I call "playing your game." You guys on the other hand... and if I have to explain what a contradiction is or wherein your contradictions lie, then it's probably too complicated a concept for you to understand.

Interesting comments. Do you think either of these scenarios should be used in Div 3 league play given the disparity between some teams?

BTW.... We like Elmira44. :)

Things I've learned today.

As long as 5_4 agrees with your post...it is a good post.

Canhockguy is immature and when losing an argument resorts to name calling(oh and so is 5_4)

Canadians are superior to all other forms of life

People who are familiar with taco johns prefer it to taco bell

Well try me smartass...cause I do not see wherein my contradictions lie.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

There is a currently a 3 way tie in the MIAC for 1st, not sure how the other tie-breakers are layed out but GF-GA could very well decide the seeding of the MIAC tournament.

goal differential is not a tie breaker in the MIAC....they have much wierder ones.

My favorite being

"7. If the teams are still tied, seeding will be determined by a points system: The points are determined by adding up the position numbers of the conference teams that the tied teams defeated and the lowest point total will be the highest seed"

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Apparently a number of people here do derive pleasure from blowouts.

No one likes watching an embarrassing blowout. The only point I've tried to make in this thread is that sometimes an apparently embarrassing score can result even when the winning team is not running up the score, and that the extreme measures that would be needed to avoid such a differential (such as scoring on one's own net, or playing keepaway with the puck) are more insulting to the losing team than a blowout score.

That's a far cry from enjoying watching such a game.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

There is no good reason to win by double digits or more. Ever. Under any circumstances.

Is it better to just stop playing then? Do nothing but dump the puck into the zone and change lines?

You know...Chicken Tacos are good too...Fish Tacos on the other hand...not so sure about that.

I've been staying out of this brouhaha, but now, just HAVE to weigh in (perhaps unfortunate choice of words) ...

Fish tacos: absolutely! Place down the [Jersey] Shore called Surf Taco, an absolute favorite! Gotta do it. Got their sticker on my Thule!

Also, garlic shrimp tacos.

Not exactly Mexican (as my brother in law keeps pointing out) -- what they call "Coastal Cuisine" (I'm not sure I call it "cuisine" either, but it's good eats!)....

Thanks. We're wishing 44 had 4 more years.

It's unfortunate that there are blowouts and I am somewhat of the mind that it isn't "my" responsibility to keep the score down, it's yours (the other team). But, in the interest of sportsmanship there might need to be something in place to alleviate the problem.
As for the running time rule....NO WAY. The only time I like running time is when I am playing in the 4th game of a two-day tourney and we have only 8 guys!! Know what I'm sayin'?

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Go jack......I wonder why you feel it necessary to have all that team accomplishment crap all over your posts? Says a lot about your character, but of course that is the right way, where you come from. Probably goes hand in hand with all your other beliefs. Is that simple enough for you to understand, or will I have to try again?

You must be very proud and she will be sorley missed.

I guess that's where I'm coming from on the issue. If your clearly outclassed, or in our case outgassed, a whoopin doesn't do anyone any justice. I'll admit I didn't do much homework on the subject prior to signing up but am appalled that it happens to the extent it does.

Anyway...Tastes Great!
