D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Practice man...It's just Practice. Don't want to be down 3-2 in the Gold medal match with a buck 12 left on the clock against the US (if they make it :) ) and not know what your doing. It's Practice...don't you see just Practice. It's Practice that's all.... just Practice, Relax.

And thank you for the perfect example of your self-inflicted contradictions.

Geeeez! Your not reading again creasemonkey...we've established some time ago that Olympic womens hockey is about as different from D3 League play when it comes to this topic as well.... you are from normal. Try and keep up will ya! You've lost all your friends here. I'm the only one left and if that's the best you can come up with as far as your contradiction argument is concerned...please turn out the lights when you leave.

Absolutely! You have to play hard all game long to stay sharp and not adapt bad habits. Never play soft at a competition as serious as the Olympics!! You go hard all game, every game. If the competition can't keep up, then it's not the fault of the players. They're there to win and nothing less will do. They dont have to apologize for anything. It's the Olympics for god's sake, not some house league or Silver Stick competition!!!

Yeah. Not buying it.

And I admit it's hard to tell whether you repeat the word "practice" 6 times because you're being facetious, you're trying too hard to sell the idea, or if you haven't quite convinced yourself that it wasn't crap.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

You see, you just don't get it. You compare a teams accomplishments in an arena to your own personal signature line and you can't see the difference. Every time I see it I have to laugh. You talk about us being arrogant when you display the cheesiest crap every time you post. Get it off and grow up, the past is the past. And you call me immature. Whenever you meet someone do you first tell them your past team accomplishments? That's what you're doing here! Cheeseball. There's more name calling for ya. Start your crying.

Fish are biting again...

The thing I find funniest about this is that you can't come up with a logical, intelligent response to something I say, so you call me names and whine about me posting Superior's accomplishments in my signature line.

You have this 8 pound (3.6 Kg) object inside your head...maybe you should start using it.

I was establishing credibility. So there it is, I still had to explain it to you. You could not figure it out for yourself. You need to go back to school pal, and by the way, what took you so long? Follow the best you can and I'll see you after practice man. Practice, I have to go now. Practice man....

Fifteen or twenty times is enough....

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

I've read plenty here and on other threads on the run up issue. I suspect the main reason I am a strong proponent of not running up the score is because that's the way I was taught by my peers & coaches...it just wasn't done because it was disrespectful to your opponent and crazy as it may seem, hockey folklore and Don Cherry will both tell you the hockey gods will eventually get you. Hockey Voo Doo, if you will.
Yup "Hockey Voo Doo...." :P

There is the opening I've been waiting for...See we don't care what happens in Basketball, Football, Soccer, LaX, etc...Hockey is different. There is a respect factor in this game that differs from any other sport. It's ingrained in the sport. No other Professional teams that I'm aware of go to the middle of the playing surface after a playoff series and line up to shake hands regardless of what transpired during that series. If they do...they learned it from hockey. It sets the sport apart in the same way as not running up the score is considered taboo. Now do you get it?

Nothing fires a Canadian up more than running up the score....:D

For the record I don't post here to try and sway any coaching decisions. I do post here to raise awareness that running up scores into the teens is a bad idea.

Here's where your argument starts falling apart...

not to rehash issues but take a look at the score between canada and slovakia (women's hockey).. 18-0 in the 3rd period (the score at the time of this posting)... i can't think of a better place that prides itself on sportsmanship than the olympics.. let's see if anyone (media, other teams, etc) complains about the score. If not, then to those people complaining about running up the score in the ncaa's..sit down..

C'mon guys really...this is a tournament. Let's not confuse same with league play. GF & GA account for position in any tourney scenario. We don't need a tastes great vs. less filling filibuster on this one. Move along...nothing to see here. It's two different kettles of fish.

First, I don't post here to make friends and by "some time ago", do you mean beginning with post #299? Trust me, I've managed to keep up with the posts on this site. I find it funny how vehemently you espoused your "Canadian way" philosophy throughout this entire thread until Canada "ran up the score" against Slovakia in the Olympic games (the stage where the epitome of sportsmanship is generally displayed). Up to this point, there was no mention in your posts about making any exception for the Olympic games. When your "Canadian way" argument proves to be nothing but a figment of your imagination, you change your philosophy to fit your argument.

If anyone has lost credibility here, it is most certainly you - you don't even have the courage to stand by your convictions - is that too, the Canadian way?

if name calling and whining is establishing credibility...you got all you need.

Sorry I didn't bite your trolling lure last night...I waited til I was hungry this afternoon.

Firstly, I doubt you have any friends and in all liklihood will have to hire your own pall bearers. Secondly, I don't trust you. Thirdly, I didn't mention anything about the Olympics because it has nothing to do with D3 Decisions: Running up the Score thread that I'll remind you...your on. You created what you thought was an opening with the Canadian Women's Olympic Team winning 18-0 over the Slovaks and with little other ammunition began shooting your mouth off.....again. That weak position was easily dispelled by a number of people here as having nothing to do with the thread topic. Everyone got it but you which seems to be a common occurence. Lastly if you want to condone running up scores on teams as a good thing for the sport...well go ahead but you won't find too many Canadian sympathizers in your camp and despite all your efforts I doubt whether you will find to many D3 coaches that think it's a great idea anymore as well.

As far as my credibility is concerned, I'll let it stand on it's own merits as I know there are only a few nutbars out there that agree that running up the score is a good idea.

Don't forget to turn the lights out here when you leave....

So I guess the Canadian way is for no one to run up the score except Team Canada and when they do we are all suppossed to accept it while you gloat. Just reading the crap that you and your little buddy write, it does not suprise me that your children come to the US for an education. Because if you and can hockey guy are products of the third world education offered up in the great white north I can"t blame them. All we ask of them is not to take too much FA and get the rest of the team punished. If they want to play where teams don't run up the score play for a Canadian school.
P.S. Creasemonkey still has friends and supporters.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

As much as I hate to agree with troller #1 and troll #2

The olympics have no room in this discussion.

Are you honestly telling me that if you were playing in an olympic hockey game...your team is winning 16-0...you have the puck and a chance to score an olympic goal...you aren't going to take it? Thats a chance most people never get, and the ones who are lucky enough to make the olympic team, rarely get.

The chinese lady who scored that goal on the US will probably cherish that moment for the rest of her life...and thats what it should be about.

Pulling your goalie on a delayed penalty up 10-1 on the other hand.....i don't know about that :)

I have to disagree. The Olympics do have room in this discussion. Previous posts on this thread even addressed professional hockey (by the Canadian way group), so if there is room for discussion of professional hockey, there certainly is room for discussion of the Olympics. Yes, it started out as a discussion about running up the score in D3, but then it morphed into a more general exchange of comments about hockey being unique and different than any other sport because Canadians don't believe in running up the score, period. There was no differetiation made about Canadians not believing in running up the score only in D3. In fact, I specifically mentioned that the Bowdoin coach is a Canadian and her team beat PSU 15-0. She was also a member of the Canadian National team - maybe there's a theme here, that you don't get to be an elite-level athlete by "playing with the game" but rather by playing THE game.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score
