D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

did anyone ever doubt that that would be the eventual outcome??

no, but if you remember, 1980... we beat russia and russia was far superior to us, and we beat them not to mention with a bunch of college kids, so no such thing as "eventual outcome" but the most likely of outcomes would be usa v. canada or at least thats what we all want.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

if name calling and whining is establishing credibility...you got all you need.

Sorry I didn't bite your trolling lure last night...I waited til I was hungry this afternoon.

Is that the best you can do after all that thinking? Practice man you need practice. By the way, I don't believe you ever played. You were a fan or groupie maybe. Also, just for the record to everyone, I have never said anything about it (not running up the score) being the Canadian way. Running up the score applies to any team that does it. 5-4 probably meant to say it is not encouraged in Canada but seems to be encouraged in the US. It happens everywhere of course. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, but for some people it's like pulling teeth.
Sounds like the boys are starting to run up the score, better get back to it.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Just finished watching Canada/Norway....8-0. What's with that. I'm embarrassed!

I'm calling for the removal of men's hockey from the Olympics until teams like poor Norway can compete properly!!

Running up the scores likd this is just plain poor sportsmanship!!

Why didn't Babcock instruct his troops to go into a five pass and shoot into the corner tactic. Why weren't the defense put up on the forward lines...why didn't they put Brodeur and Luongo on the top line for the third period and put Perry and Getzlaf in net....just poor sportsmanship on behalf of the Canucks!!

It's just a sad, sad day for hockey!!!

I just hope both teams gather after the game for hot cocoa in the Village so Canada can apologize for this debacle.

I can't wait to hear the press villify Canada for this embarrassment!!

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

So I guess the Canadian way is for no one to run up the score except Team Canada and when they do we are all suppossed to accept it while you gloat. Just reading the crap that you and your little buddy write, it does not suprise me that your children come to the US for an education. Because if you and can hockey guy are products of the third world education offered up in the great white north I can"t blame them. All we ask of them is not to take too much FA and get the rest of the team punished. If they want to play where teams don't run up the score play for a Canadian school.
P.S. Creasemonkey still has friends and supporters.

What do you mean by getting the rest of the team punished?

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

I didn't realize Plymouth State qualified for the olympics. When do we put this forum to bed.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Why aren't you breaking into song after the platty/potsdam game?

I'm already on record with Houle's record ....he gets it.

71 shots though, Hitchman must have been unbelievable as Platty went 0 for 4 on the PP and had 27 shots in the 3rd alone.

Question is how does a goalie stop 66 shots and not get awarded one of the 3 stars.....oh ya it was at the Stafford.:)

Any clock malfunctions tonight?

Ya Plymouth couldn't get centralized in time. They vow not to have it happen again and have assured everyone they will be ready for 2014.

Don't worry, It's just about nighty night.....

You crack me up. Yes, just maybe the goalie had one hell of a game and it has nothing to do with Houle "getting it." Here, let me refresh your memory...

OK, first I think you need to do your homework before you make those statements. This in no way detracts from my opinion of Coach Houle since I think he's an exceptional coach but here are some Platty stats from previous years.

2002-2003
10-0 against Neumann
10-2 against Cortland
10-2 against my beloved Amherst
13-0 against Chatham (twice)

2003-2004
15-0 against Chatham
13-2 against Chatham
12-0 against Neumann
12-0 against Cortland

2004-2005
10-0 against Colby
13-0 against Chatham (twice)

That's as far as I went but lets be objective here. This was all under Coach Houle.

Yeah, I guess he "gets it." All you do is make lame excuses for what you want to believe regardless of reality. Platty (under Houle, beat Chatham 13-0, 13-0, 15-0, 13-2, 13-0, 13-0 from 2002-2004). I didn't look at scores after that point. Do you really think the lightbulb just went on for him? Get a grip on reality, would ya? And, no, I'm not changing my position... Platty is as good as they are because they do play THEIR game.

# 1...I already responded to this in an earlier post. What is this the Ol' Shell game?

No one...I repeat no one has ever asked you to change your position on this subject.

Something tells me you like the old Houle better than the new Houle.

I know you did and I think you assume a lot.

What makes you think there's and "old Houle" and a "new Houle"? Let me just say that I repsect him as a coach, period. There isn't an "old" and a "new" factor that influences my opinion of him as a coach.

# 1 ...Your on record saying you are a proponent of running up scores, in fact you've stated it's your "conviction". Seemingly proud of the fact that in previous seasons Houle decided to run up the scores on Chatham. I'm saying I haven't seen him do that this year and can only assume your disapointed in his renewed tactics this campaign....

Again, you make a lot of assumptions. I never said that I am a proponent of "running up the score." The way I look at it, it is simply playing your game as a competitive athlete. You can put whatever caption or title on it that you want. And again, a difference in perspective. Please don't try to put words in my mouth. .. What I did say is, I believe in playing your game (the game) and playing it to the best of your ability every moment that you are on the ice (or in the case of other sports, any other playing surface). This does imply not changing your strategy and/or tactics just to have pity on your opponent. In one post I explicitly stated that I would prefer to lose by 15 goals than to have an opponent not to play up to their full potential because they had pity on me. I sure wouldn't ever know the full extent of my weaknesses if teams just quit competing. Don't you find that embarrassing as hell as an athlete? Let's face it, we come from two different worlds. And no, I'm not disappointed if Coach Houle decided to change his tactics, that's his business and only his, but I don't make any assumptions or draw any conclusions by the results of this season thus far that he has chosen to do so.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

creasemonkey,
it's not about 'pity'. it's about respect. it's about the good of the game, using the term 'game' in both the singular and plural. on the rare occasion when our team is up by 6 or 7 goals, I do not shed pity on the other team - but I do show them respect by not doubling the lead.

Pops, we'll just have to agree to disagree - I'm sorry, but as a competitive athlete, I do not consider that respect when you stop competing, and that's precisely what you're doing. Not only that, it becomes patently obvious when your opponent stops competing, making it more disrespectful.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

There is a case here where there are two views on running up the score and both are right. On one hand if you want to respect the other team stop scoring after so many goal and on the other to respect a team you still need to compete, I'm of the latter variety. This is a tricky situation since it can land you in a Catch 22 scenario.

So now that it appears that Crease moneky is finally about to " tap out" on this subject it would seem an appropriate time for her little " bring up the rear" buddy/buddette " Hockey Fan 1 to appear, spewing venom, insults and sarcasm for all of us to chuckle at...

C'Mon u little critter... come on out and say something nasty about Canadians...Here little critter... Call us Hosers......
