D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Plattsburgh beats Cortland State 6 - 1 on 1 PP goal, outshooting them 50 - 9.

A mixture of R-E-S-P-E-C-T and some stellar play by Cortland freshman goaltender Sarah Sitcov!

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

OK... been reading this thread for a while now, and never posted because I did not want to speak out of school. IMHO, and for the record, I am not for running up scores, never coached or played that way... kinda like peeing into the air, well, you get my drift.

That being said, yesterday I was on way to my D's game, and decided to leave home early to catch a game of one of teams that has had given up an unbelieveable amount of goals, and has scored few. I was a little late and walked in with the score already 5-0 in the first period. That being said...

Read my first paragraph... read it again. I can honestly say that the level of play from one team was abysmal. The teams play was a direct reflection of the body language of the coaching staff. Anything that could go wrong did. I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes, nor do I really care. I am neutral in this, but I can say that I was amazed. On-ice, the team discipline, breakout, routine positioning and neutral zone play not there. So, is this a reflection of coaching, or individual play? At the start of the second period, two of the coaches were not even on the bench yet.

So.. as far as running up the score, again read the first paragraph. I can tell you I noticed all players playing on the winning team, and even noticed in period 3 a few D playing F, and noticed an obvious play when a player was going in for what could have been a breakaway, and she dumped the puck for a line change. Take this for what it is worth, but sometimes, you just can't help it trying not to score.:o

Sounds like your motto it right. Read IT again.

Sounds like your motto it right. Read IT again.
Motto: "make the players around you better "

Wow, are you suggesting that if the coaches can't motivate/direct a team, then the opposing team should tell them (or encourage them somehow) to step up? Like to see how that could be managed respectfully

or that the losing team has to show on-ice leadership? (as I think you are)

1) What is the story in MIAC and NHCA -- we don't hear any "running up the score" chatter for them, although I guess a 10-0 Finlandia score might begin to get there --- their leagues have more parity?

Nope, not even close. Try again.

I believe so. The only team getting beat up on in the west is Marian...which is somewhat in the same boat as Plymouth, except this is their first year, not their 3rd. Even there, they have a couple 9-0 losses to Eau Claire and a 10-0 loss to River Falls. Majority of their games are in the 6-7 goal range. There is nothing close to that in the MIAC. I think top to bottom the western conferences are closer in skill. Look at Finlandia last night...goalie stops 46 of 47 shots against UWS, to keep it a 1-0 game.

And of course the west has class...unlike the East....lol

people on here don't get upset about the 9-0, 10-0 wins they only care about the 15, 16-0 wins

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

RIT beats Chatham 7 - 1, went 0 for 8 on the PP (?) and out shooting them
60 - 14.

R-E-S-P...well you get it. Hopefully everyones getting it.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

What gets me about that score is the 27 third period shots after being up 7-1 at the 6:48 mark of the third. I see the three penalties after the final goal, which leads me to believe they were still blasting away at a 13-man roster (only 12 skaters)

I understand the margin of victory wasn't overwhelming but why all the shots up 6?

Dunno...Certainly a testament to the Chatham goalie....Big Time!

possibly because Chatham took 4 penalties(2 checking, 1 slash, and 1 trip) and whatever wasn't called after RIT's 7th goal. While RIT has a bit of history this season in making goalies look phenomenal the girls won't not gonna respond if things get chippy out there. If the opposing team keeps it respectful usually the girls will keep it respectful as well.
