D1 Scores and Highlights

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Was it retaliation? How bad was it?
Don't know how serious the injury. West did not return to the ice, or the bench in the 3rd. Didn't see it myself. Eyewitness accounts vary from completely unintentional contact to the head during normal physical contact at speed, to something different. No mention of retaliation. I'll take the word of pgb or 86 when they post their thoughts...if they happened to see the contact.

Even seeing it in person right in front of me, I couldn't tell if it was intentional or not, but it was clearly worth the 5-minute major and game misconduct. West was driving toward the OSU net and Tarr was locked up with her. Tarr nailed West with an elbow. West went down like her strings were cut, needed to be helped to the bench by two teammates, and was very spaghetti-legged. Thankfully she was able to coast off the ice at the end of the second period with only token assistance.

I didn't see anything that would cause Tarr to do that as a retaliatory move, and there was no retaliation after the hit from the Gophers (likely because the officials got the call right). In fact, OSU took the next penalty for a high-stick, giving the Gophers a full two minutes of 5-on-3 (which, unfortunately for us in maroon and gold, they didn't capitalize on).

Brook, I didn't have a good view of it as I was at the other end of the ice. CrazyDave would have had the best view of it. I really did not see what happened. Hate to see anyone's kids get hurt. I sincerely hope the injury is not season-ending. Give Minnesota credit tonight, they brought their game. They jumped on us early and Noora (she is such a rock star goalie that I feel compelled to only refer to her by her first name) did now allow anything to get through, and we had some decent scoring chances. Hey, I got to meet some fellow USCHO'ers ... CrazyDave and BozIce99. It was a pleasure, guys! Enjoy your stay in Columbus and have a safe trip home after tomorrow's game.

No one seems to care:

Attendance tonight for games played in the best women's hockey conference:

Saint Cloud (with the #1 ranked team in attendance) 253
Mankato 151
Bemidji 268
Columbus 344

Total: 1,016 (average 254)

Wow, Columbus leads the pack, at least last night. It is kind of sad considering the best womens collegiate hockey in the country is played in the WCHA.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

In fairness, the UMD vs. Bemidji game was at 2 p.m. on a weekday, not that I'm assuming they'll be packing the house today either.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Bemidji State leads UMD 1-0 after two. BSU leads in SOG 24-14, which pretty much tells you how the game is going.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Bemidji State leads UMD 2-0 with six minutes left in the third. If nothing else, the Bulldogs get to watch a good game.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Holy cow, what a game it's become here in Troy. After giving up 2 goals to Dartmouth on the first three shots, RPI women score three goals in 2:20 in the waning moments of the second period to lead 3-2 after 2. Shots are now 24-16 in RPI's favor.

Just checked the live stats and RPI is up 4-2 on Dartmouth. Quite a turnaround although the Engineers played a good third period against the Crimson last night so perhaps it isn't all that surprising. Loss would hurt Dartmouth. Harvard up on Union 1-0 in the third so the Crimson are also having a tough afternoon. This is never an easy trip.

That's the final score in Troy.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

That's the final score in Troy.

Brown and RPI both win to stay tied for the final playoff spot. Colgate is now two points in arrears, and would need at least three points next weekend to make it. Brown holds the tie breaker over both, but they have the tougher schedule left.

Meanwhile at the other end, Harvard still solidly in second place. Clarkson with a big win over Quinnipiac on the hill in New Hamden to stay in third. SLU and Dartmouth battling for 4th and 5th. Quinnipiac is now stuck in to sixth after a tough weekend, with teams ahead of them now out of reach.

Playoff lineup starting to look more and more like this:

Cornell vs Brown/RPI
Harvard vs Princeton
Clarkson vs Quinnipiac
SLU vs Dartmouth

Summary of what is a given in the ECAC with one weekend to go:

Cornell clinches first and home ice for the playoffs.
Harvard and Clarkson both clinched home ice for the first round.
Quinnipiac is destined to finish sixth, Princeton seventh.

Just watched the the shootout from Mankato after the teams played to a 3-3 tie -- first seven shooters scored as UND took a 4-3 shootout win in four rounds. Some fancy moves from the NoDak skaters.

A bit better today (as predicted by JSchmoe)

Saint Cloud 399
Mankato 289
Bemidji 509
Columbus 520

Total 1,417 (average 354)

Total attendance for the conference for the weekend was 2,433, less than what they draw fairly regularly for a single game in Madison.
