D1 2018-19 scores, discussion, etc

Re: D1 2018-19 scores, discussion, etc

They should make Keller a forward. Reminds me of Ruggiero, always getting caught up ice, and her absence created a nice vacancy in front of the BC net for the go-ahead goal.

All in on offense...It's what they do.

Frustrating when you do this and get tons of shots but can't beat the opposing goalie.

BC had three players back on that goal. BC's D jumps into the play because they game plan around doing it.
None of them were in the slot. Sometimes, forwards aren't sure what to do defending the rush.

Re: D1 2018-19 scores, discussion, etc

If you're going all in on offense, you really need to score more than one goal on your 52 shots.

Last Saturday the UW men had over 50 shots and only scored 2 goals; not a lot of dangerous shots.

BC not impressive at all. Players fly solo and back end is full of holes. Reed was excellent and her defense did a great job of letting her see the puck. She made the stops and they closed it off.

So the two underdog teams in the Beanpot both won their respective games today. I love it!

Can't agree with the first part. They couldn't solve Reed. 53 SOG, doubling up Harvard.

Sorry but what I saw was a lot of selfish play which is often caused by a team pressing to score. The reason they were pressing is because they couldn’t solve Reed. I get that but going end to end is not the solution. Making a big goalie move might help.

"Pressing" I'll give you, 100%. They actually seemed desperate after Harvard tied the score.

P.S. That big goalie moved plenty last night!

My thoughts on the game are that Harvard came out with a lot of intensity and seemed to falter a little toward the end of the first which is when BC scored.

The rest of the game BC did take a ton of shots but Harvard did a really good job closing off BC from getting any really solid opportunities. Then as we got more desperate (especially after Harvard's 3rd goal in the beginning of the third) we really did just start going gangbusters on the solo efforts through traffic trying to find the hero goal.

Harvard played well. Reed played amazing. They definitely earned it. BC needs to learn how to not panic when they are behind, but the problem is if they're behind it's usually because a team is closing us down in the first place and we need to try something different.

I don't know man. It was more of the same for us. Brutal loss.

I think UW has this same problem at times.

If I was going to try to "fix" BC, I'd concentrate on defense, defense, and more defense. You miss Burt more than we expected, so I'd try to borrow from Wisconsin and make it almost impossible to even get a look at your goalie. I think her confidence comes and goes. You'd like your goalie to stop the 1st and 3rd goals last night; the other two were on the skaters. I don't understand why your defensemen don't have the primary job of making life easier for an inexperienced goalie. It's like BC only has Plan A, which hasn't worked that well at the highest level in the past, and there doesn't seem to be a fallback plan. By the end, you could just see Harvard improving with every shift.

Well said. Agree that there is a definite need to focus on playing defense in front of a first year goalie. She likely feels it’s all on her right now which it clearly isn’t. If they can figure that out, they will be in the running. If not, their season will come to an end quickly.

As a midwest elitist, I don't think bc should be fixed. I'm fine with how bc plays...Very entertaining to watch. ;)

As a Gopher fan I'm with FHF, in that I recognize that BC has tons of talent and is entertaining to watch, while also recognizing that this team hasn't figured out how to beat teams that they have no business losing to. They are in no way out of going far in the post season - should they qualify - if they somehow manage to figure things out and if they do possibly going on all the way to win the NCAA championship. Provided they make the necessary adjustments, as ARM points out above, if they do I believe they have the talent to win it all.

Therefore, again as a Gopher fan, I'm with FHF, in that I'll be totally fine with if BC continues with their current all-offensive system, with no adjustments needed.
