D-III Women's Bracketology

It's weird to think that Adrians best road to the final four would be to lose in the NCHA championship game.

So now that Adrian has lost, does that mean that they would most likely get an at large bid, there would be a 4/4 spilt and the winner of Stevens Point-River Falls gets another? Providing that nobody else tanks their conference of course.....

That's what I'd predict. As long as Middlebury, Norwich, and Elmira or Plattsburgh win out east.

A quick scan of the numbers says that Adrian gets in over Amherst. Adrian gets win%, ranked, last 25% and Common opponents...Amherst wins SOS

Trinity is closer Adrian gets win %, ranked and common opponents, Trinity would get SOS and and last 25%

So Adrian should cheer for Amherst to beat Trinity and then lose to Middlebury :)

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

Gustavus might still have better numbers than UWSP, even if they beat UWRF tomorrow.
So NCHA Winner to Adrian and MIAC Winner to UWRF.

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

Fixed.
West should be Adrian, NCHA, MIAC and UWRF(even if they lose)

you run into the trouble there that you aren't supposed to have interconference match-ups in the 1st round...so I guess what does the NCAA hold more valuable no interconference match ups or no flights?

If they do have to have a flight, they could still send Adrian to Elmira and fly the NCHA team to Plattsburgh or Middlebury! Which would actually suck cuz it would probably mean the final four is 3 east teams and 1 west lol

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

I just hope there isn't a mess in the East this weekend.

Yeah thats what you gotta hope for...If River Falls wins you would assume that they jump over Adrian and would get the 2nd Pool C after Plattsburgh/Elmira. Then if Middlebury or Norwich gets upset, its pretty dicey for Adrian

If I had to guess, in this particular situation, they're going to go with eliminating flights. Interconference matchups don't cost any money. Flights do.

In looking at the numbers, we know Adrian has a slight edge over Gustavus, taking the win/loss, L25 and head-to-head; Gustavus takes the SOS and COP. Gustavus would still have the edge over Point even with a Pointer win tomorrow--Gustavus takes win/loss, COP, and head-to- head, while Point takes SOS and L25. What is interesting is that with a Pointer win tomorrow, Point has the edge over Adrian. Adrian takes the win/loss and COP, but Point takes SOS, L25 and head-to-head.

Bottom line for Point is that they must win tomorrow to even be in the hunt. In my humble opinion, these 3 teams are too close to call, and it might be easiest to simply take the NCHA and MIAC champs and River Falls from the west and 5 teams from the east.

But on the other hand, if River Falls wins, it might be easier to take Adrian as the final Pool C, and avoid flights in the 1st round in the process. I get the impression that the NCAA is leaning heavily on these committees to exercise a little cost constraint, if possible. The 5-3 split that you suggest does require a flight, and it is not a stretch at all that in this scenario, Adrian is a solid Pool C choice, assuming that the chalk holds out East.

The field is selected by the criteria and the criteria alone. Whether or not a team has to fly has no baring on whethey they get put in or left out.

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

And the first official bid is up for grabs. Concordia (WISC) leads Lake Forest 1-0 at the end of one. I believe both of this schools are within 500 miles of Adrian and would be their first round opponent next weekend in the NCAA tournament.

If CUW can pull this off, it would be a pretty great story. The team has always been competitive with the top teams in the west, mainly due to strong goalie performances...and just haven't been quite good enough to win the big games. It would be a good thing for the program to get over the hump here. Plus its a good Cinderella story :)

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

Lake Forest tied it on a power play...now CUW 1 Lake Forest 1---i'm enjoying the late 90's/early 2000's soundtrack Adrian plays

Bethel is up 1-0 on St Thomas midway through 1st

Totally agree about the soundtrack! I did think Tubthumping was an interesting choice!

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

Norwich and UMass Boston tied at 1 with 4 minutes left in the first. Shots are 8-5 so far.

Bad giveaway by the Beacons... 2-1 Norwich, just over a minute left in the first.

Another quick goal, 3-1 Norwich, end of the first. Beacons will have 1:54 of PP to start the second.

Game on in Adrian, MI.

You ought to hear what they do when they get bored during club games. One night the referees came out to The Simpsons theme to start the 3rd period.
