D-III Women's Bracketology

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

It's once every four years it has to be in the West. 2013 was Superior, Plattsburgh in 2014 and likely 2015. Next year can be East again then in 2017 it goes West.

I forgot Superior hosted. I think that year it had to be out west and Superior put the bid in. It was the one year it was at a predetermined site. Attendance was still low. The championship game between Elmira and Middlebury was around 500, Gustavus was the west team and their game against Elmira was 983. Third place game between Platts/Gust was 750.

You'd think those east team fans would travel better once every 4 years :)

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

The only two non-conference games you failed to list are Manhattanville (1 game below .500, but up until recently was a national power) in a tournament and Castleton (2 games over .500 and just lost their conference championship game 1-0). The rest of the games on their schedule are conference games that they can't control.

Elmira's non-conferences games not listed are Manhattanville in the same tourney and Williams. See above for there being nothing they can do about the rest of their conference.

Are you accusing a computer of inflating eastern SOS?

.

Not the computer, but whoever wrote the algorithm added a +.05 for the eastern teams :)

I know that they can't blame who is in their conference. I was just countering your argument that the west teams don't play stiff enough competition throughout the year.

Gustavus, River Falls, Stevens Point, Superior all schedule the toughest non-conference games that they can every year...just like the top east teams do. They all play each other every year. Adrian has fully committed to that philosophy as they still prefer to play mediocre eastern teams over western teams.

Gustavus' non-conference schedule (and they only get 7 games) is consistently River Falls, Stevens Point, Superior, and top NCHA teams. This year they played Adrian and Lake Forest and Platts vs Middlebury

Re: D-III Women's Bracketology

They have, in the recent past, made the championship site be in Minnesota to allow the Western teams to be the host regardless of the rankings. I think the agreement is every three years they will repeat the process. Which, if my memory isn't fading too much, means next year. They may try to find a neutral site in the East, but usually the top teams out East (Plattsburgh, Elmira, Middlebury, Norwich, Amherst) all have sufficiently adequate rinks for hosting.

You've obviously never seen Orr Rink at Amherst.

Whew.... we easterners thought you were onto our .10 built-in advantage...

As is the case in the east, the more the merrier as more good teams join the fray. In Plattsburgh's case, we hope Oswego's program does get better. We had hope for Utica and Neumann in the past, but so far they've yet to take that next step.

In the west, I'd be shocked if St. Norbert's program doesn't improve. Lake Forest and St. Thomas seem on the cusp of being elite teams.

True. I've heard stories but wasn't going to repeat them. I've looked, but couldn't find the rules regarding what minimum requirements for hosting are.

I could be wrong but I do not believe Amherst meets the minimum requirements needed to host. I THINK that was the case in late 2000's Atleast.

St Thomas has always been right there. They generally get stuck playing 2nd fiddle to Gustavus. I believe this is their third trip to the NCAA tournament, might be 4th. (giving Plattsburgh that scare last year!) St. Norbert will continue to improve...I don't know with Lake Forest, they have their moments, but then fade for a few years and then jump back up. They haven't been consistent.
