People have their own rooms, or are next to perhaps maybe just one other person. But people go from room to room. There are common spaces like hallways, dining areas, recreation areas, etc... nursing home patients also don't have anywhere else to go if they get sick (unless they are hospitalized). If anyone has flu-like symptoms at my office they need to be cleared by the health office before they can return to work. If you've had any contact with someone with covid-19 you can't come on site for 14 days.

Your company has a more clear plan of what to do than mine.

Target sent an email to their CUSTOMERS before my company sent out a generic copy-paste from the CDC.

My company gave no guidance on what to do if you’re sick with anything (and let’s be honest, it’s out there widespread and unless you’ve tested negative, you might as well be treated as having it) you should stay home for two weeks minimum. No plan on whether we will be paid for quarantine for those who are hourly.

My company didn’t say “Everyone should be working with their supervisors to determine if they can work from home and start making plans to do so”. They said “we trust you to make the right call”. Literally, that’s what they said. They said if you feel like you need to work from home, you can discuss it with your boss.

They repeated weeks-old talking points that everyone should self-quarantine for two weeks if they’ve traveled to Iran, Italy, China, or South Korea. That’s so outdated...

“If you haven’t traveled to those countries, it’s business as usual”

In other news, republican congressmen were given tests despite exhibiting no respiratory symptoms, where as people who are actually sick can’t get tests fast enough.

I work on a site with ~1300 people but there aren't thousands of people crammed together in a single space like we would be at a concert, sporting event, etc. There are no cases here in Maine yet, but if there were I would be much less likely to want to go to a hockey game vs work.

No confirmed cases. 20 negative tests. Five pending.

ETA: it is now 42 negative tests. Fun fact: one of them was my mom.

My company is postponing/cancelling our two week all-employee volunteer program which was scheduled for the first two weeks of May. Which is totally the right thing to do. I also feel there's going to be an announcement soon that we're all going to be asked to work from home, probably starting on Monday. If that happens, I wonder for how long that will be. I'm thinking through the end of March.

We just got our company rundown yesterday as well (Cold Storage/Food warehouse).

- No company travel.
- Hand Sanitizer/disinfectant available
- Stay Home if sick
- 15 day quarantine if COVID is suspected (can use PTO to get paid. Otherwise you are excused for that time)

The issue at the ground level is this: We have a stupid high turnover rate (over 80%). A main cause of that is you get 80 hours of PTO (8 or 10 full days depending on your shift). People burn through PTO like it's going out of style to start the year however. So not only can most people not cover the quarantine period with full pay, but if they can, they are now out of PTO until Jan 1. When you are out of PTO, you get a write up for missing work. Basically it's 3 strikes and you're out.

If we have a legit case of contact, I don't see how the place can stay viable.

Luckily I have no work travel scheduled at the moment, but for those that do if they travel to/from areas identified as at risk, they must self-quarantine for 14 days before visiting any company facility.

I had been planning to visit Minnesota in July or August. Really hoping this doesn't kill that.

As you may imagine, I am not coming to Philippines in a few weeks.

My daughter's preschool is run by Iowa State's education department. We just got a notice to start planning for alternate arrangements once the university switches to online classes after spring break since they aren't sure they'll still be open.

Fun times.

It’s more about safe routes and quarantines. I’m not sure Philippines will be letting Americans in later this month. I would not if my current count was so low

At least you got a heads up. If it was private you'd have gotten a "Pick up your brat. We'll be charging you for every minute she's here."

All in-person instruction at MTU is suspended and travel being strongly discouraged even domestically; I will most likely delay or cancel at least one trip (end of March)

And now I’m (everyone is) being encouraged to work from home as much as possible through at least mid April... this is going to be tricky ( in and out of the lab to gather data; home to write)
