My favorite paragraph from that:

“ Later that day, the investigators and Seattle health officials gathered with representatives of the C.D.C. and the F.D.A. to discuss what happened. The message from the federal government was blunt. “What they said on that phone call very clearly was cease and desist to Helen Chu,” Dr. Lindquist remembered. “Stop testing.”

I never really venture to the non-hockey part of these boards, glad to see this thread exists after living the other one.

I think this may be the thing that does it. A subset of people love watching other people be a55holes and bully the weak. They may be to cowardly to do it themselves but they love that someone has the 'guts' to do it. Lock up kids in cages- not my kid. Cut funds- not his fault. Now you are talking about very serious disruption that cannot be ignored and there is no escape. Now they are the ones who can suffer and there is no joy in suffering with other people. It threatens people on a personal level and it threatens all the strata of society. No saying 'but the economy', this isn't in my backyard.

The only question I have regarding steps like this is, why 250? Is 249 ok?

I knew that would be coming. But it still doesn't address the point.

I understand taking a step like certain conferences have where they say we're not going to allow fans to attend the game. Doesn't matter if it's 1100 at Clarkson or 2000 at Cornell.

But just randomly picking a number is stupid, for a couple of reasons. First, there doesn't appear to be any sort of scientific evidence behind it. Second, it creates a false sense of security if you attend an event of less than 250 people, security that may in fact not exist.

It’s dumb, I guess they gotta picks number.
My school sent a note to self quarantine if you visited SK, China, Iran or Italy. But you don’t have to self quarantine if you just transited one of their airports. Unless you were in the airport for over 24 hours.
24 hours? Either it‘a safe or it’s not
