I'm considering attending an acquaintance's end of the world party. There will be bad apocalypse movies, a costume contest, and everyone is to bring canned food (which will be donated in case of a non-pocalypse).

So the Mayan calendar just stops @ 12/21/12....my theory is the guy who was making the calender got sick of carving the stone tablets and simply stopped making it, or he just died and no one else wanted to take up an activity they knew they would never see the fruits of.

No. The Maya invented a lengthy circular calendar that runs out in December 2012, but their cyclical calendar will roll over again to Day Zero thus beginning another cycle.

On a more tin foil hat-note, anyone a little worried there's gonna be some shootings or something else of the bad variety? If you've seen those doomsday shows, there are people stocked up with more ammunition than a militia, and others who've just gone into unrecoverable debt because they think it doesn't matter. At least a few of these nut jobs have to crack once they realize the world isn't ending and will take it out on the general public.
