Cops: Nothing has fundamentally changed.

I think that video just edited out the graphic image of her being shot in the head. The camera in this clip was evidently on the whole time, and was on the officer that didn’t shoot.

The other officer in this video didn’t turn his camera on until after he shot her, though.

Just like Ohio's own Timothy Loehmann. It's almost as if these police departments hire these cops because they know they're willing to shoot unarmed people of color. But I'm sure he was just one bad apple in a barrel full of heroic cops. Just needed a little more training.

Whatever punishment this guy gets will not be sufficient.

Punishment?

He will probably become the chief of police...

He was charged with 1st degree murder. They don't appear to be fu ck ing around with this one. My guess is if they look they can come up with some aggravating factors that could be used to enhance the sentence. I bet this dude is a racist jack bag and the victims family and lawyers will be sure to gather evidence of this. If -- and this is always a big if -- the prosecuters do their jobs right, this 5h!tstain is likely going to be spending decades in prison at least. And once there hopefully he gets the Jeff Dahmer experience. Remember inmates outnumber the COs by factors of dozens or even hundreds to one in some prisons, and no CO is going to risk his or her neck for anyone if people with nothing else to lose want a little fun to break up their day.

Thank God for video or they would say she had a knife...

A few years ago I read an article written by a guy who trains COs. For both public and private prisons.

He said the first thing he teaches his trainees is that any prison -- men, women, max, country club, doesn't matter -- can be taken over by the inmates any time they want if they truly want to take over the prison. There's nothing you can do about it. That's a pretty scary thought.

A current colleague of mine (and two former ones) worked at COs for long periods of time. Many of our members work in the Department of Rehab and Corrections. They have told me the same thing. While virtually all who work in prisons may be predisposed to support cops -- even cops who are convicted of murder, they are even more predisposed to covering their own as ses.

Not only did Grayson discourage his partner from getting a medical kit, but someone was overheard on a police radio trying to push the narrative that her wound was self-inflicted.

A very close friend of mine was a CO until about 12 years ago when he blew out his knee breaking up a fight in a max prison. You all describe him accurately: generally supportive of cops, but cops in prison need both special protection and also earn the CO's vitriol for being criminal cops.

The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council has announced it will not be pursuing any further the grievance it filed on behalf of the sheriff's deputy who murdered Sonya Massey. For the most part it's just other rats fleeing a sinking ship, but whatever the reasons it is welcome to see a law enforcement union coming to a proper conclusion. In the past, that has rarely been the course of action.

I make my living representing public sector union members. Some of our members work in law enforcement and corrections. But sometimes I believe I would eliminate public sector collective bargaining to get rid of police unions. Cops all want to act like the military. Well the military don't got no unions, because when your boss tells you to go kill, kill, kill, you don't get to file a grievance when you are in the military. If these cops wanted to start acting like they give a 5h!t about that slogan that's on every stinking police SUV out there -- "to serve and protect" -- and to agree to de-militarize their departments to the greatest extent possible, I might re-think that position.

Anchorage PD has had six officer involved shootings in three months with four deaths. The latest was a 16 year old Polynesian girl who was shot in her home holding a knife just a couple of days ago. This is after going through I think three or four different police chiefs in the last year. Our new mayor and the police union are already fighting. Be interesting to see if this pops things off.

  1. Virginia creates independent prison oversight office to investigate civil rights violations at prisons.
  2. Office sends report concerning deaths at state prisons to US Department of Justice.
  3. Youngkin defunds office on grounds they "exceeded their authority."
Know your rights. These are your rights.

All three of them.
