Cops: No Snarky Nor Positive Title

We have the Arlo. It will occasionally go off for pedestrians walking by, or our neighbor's outdoor cats on the prowl, but on the whole I'm pretty happy with it. We tried to do the hard-wired version first, but it turned out the transformer on our original doorbell is busted and we have no way to replace it without tearing out drywall, which well, fuck that for a doorbell. So we exchanged it for the wireless/battery version and also purchased a wireless chime.

Why can't you address what I wrote?

Its very well possible the situation should have never graduated to a struggle in the first place but that's a different topic.

To be clear I lean towards the argument the cop is guilty of a crime here and very possibly murder.

Sorry, I was using your post as the easiest one that posted "resisting arrest".

And I very much don't see it as a different topic. That whole stop started and ended that way because of who the person was. If it were a white guy from GR, he would have gotten a ticket, and let to drive away. Or at least would have been allowed to just run.

The murder was pretty inevitable given he had to "arrest" the driver for the wrong tag. And it was marked by the execution style shooting in the back of the head.

He's trying to run away. He isn't trying to harm the cop.

If you are such a bad cop your choices comes down to letting a man run against using deadly force, let him go.

How hard is this to understand?

Your poor SAT scores and substandard virility do not grant you the power of life or death.

He ran, the cop tackled him, they get up, guy is still struggling, cop pulls the taser out, misses, guy grabs the taser, more scuffling ensues, cop shoots guy.

There's a whole lot of intervening events between "guy ran away" and "guy gets killed" that you can't just ignore.

Absolutely, 100%, I agree that if the guy is white and a native-English speaker the initial stop goes smoother and the guy likely never runs, let alone gets shot. But the focus of any inquiry is going to be on what exactly happened after the taser came out. Everything before that is relatively meaningless, even if you think it shouldn't be.

Why the fuck was the cop chasing him? Once he was out of the car, let him run and impound the car. Done. A far more appropriate penalty for a license plate violation.

And I the idea that a person can't defend themselves is hard to accept. IMHO, it's pretty normal to try to avoid getting tasered, just like it would be to try not to get shot.

Every single step of the way, the physical escalation came from the cop.

I dont have a cool down timer on mine...I know this because in the summer a spider always sets it off like 5 times a night usually back to back unless I turn off notifications for an hour.

Good to know. They must have updated the firmware from complaints. Last I had looked into Ring was four+ years ago.

Another Saturday, just another report that law enforcement in this country is overrun with white supremacists and Qanon types. We know the cops themselves are Nazis and KKK supporters, and now apparently we know some of the people who train them are too:

Kansas-based trainer Darrel Schenck teaches firearms classes through his own company as well as through the law enforcement division of the National Rifle Association (NRA), the leading U.S. gun-rights lobby. Schenck has voiced the belief that Democrats are pedophiles, called reports of violence during the U.S. Capitol riots “fake news,” and declared the 2020 election illegitimate, commenting: “election fraud is the real pandemic.”

Law enforcement in this country is the equivalent of a totaled automobile after an accident. You can't drive it. You can't fix it. It is nothing more than scrap metal with a tiny handful of salvageable parts. Maybe the right rear tire you just bought somehow made it through unscathed and you can use it as a real spare for your next car instead of the donut it will come with. But the wheel was bent so you'll have to replace that too.

And of course the first dude they referenced is named Whitehead.

n social media, Richard Whitehead is a warrior for the American right. He has praised extremist groups. He has called for public executions of government officials he sees as disloyal to former President Donald Trump. In a post in 2020, he urged law enforcement officers to disobey COVID-19 public-health orders from “tyrannical governors,” adding: “We are on the brink of civil war.”

Whitehead also has a day job. He trains police officers around the United States.

The Idaho-based law enforcement consultant has taught at least 560 police officers and other public safety workers in 85 sessions in 12 states over the past four years, according to a Reuters analysis of public records from the departments that hired him. A Washington state training commission in 2015 temporarily banned Whitehead from advertising courses on its website because of instructional materials that referred to a turban-wearing police officer as a “towel head” and contained cartoons of women in bikinis, according to emails from the commission to Whitehead that were reviewed by Reuters. Other marketing literature touted Whitehead’s “deception detection” technique that, among other things, teaches officers not to trust sexual-assault claimants if they use the word “we” in referring to themselves and their assailant.

The commission was responding to a student complaint citing “offensive slurs” and “blatant misogyny.” Whitehead said in an interview that the commission had given too much credence to one student’s opinion and caused him to lose business. Since then, he said, he has expanded the section of his course that caused that controversy, adding more “pot-stirring” material, including a slide that ridicules transgender people: “Suspect is a gender-fluid assigned-male-at-birth wearing non-gender-specific clothing born Caucasian but identifies as a mountain panda.” Whitehead said such barbs are intended to push back against pressures on law enforcement to espouse left-wing views on gender or race.
