Cops 2: Pay No Attention to the Rioters Behind the Curtain

Re: Cops 2: Pay No Attention to the Rioters Behind the Curtain

So here is my question for all the conspiracy theorists out there. The few articles I've seen say the cop in Chicago was charged with first degree murder. I have seen nothing that suggests he was charged with any lesser offenses.

Does this mean that if his lawyer can convince a jury that some sort of "justification" exists this guy could walk, as opposed to being convicted of some lesser offense like 2nd degree murder? That is, could this be a case of charging a defendant with a charge that is maybe a bit too high for what you can actually prove in court?

Depends on the state. In Iowa, lesser includeds are automatically given in jury instructions.

Doesn't 1st degree murder require premeditation? I'm going with "I snapped" defense -- it worked for Roxie Hart.

If the video shows what they say it shows...oh boy.
Yup, this could get messy.
So far, local media are trying to download the video themselves or are deciding what/how much of it to air. ABC 7 Chicago posted a much shorter version of it: http://abc7chicago.com/news/cpd-dash-cam-video-shows-police-shooting-laquan-mcdonald/1098065/, and they stop their clip just before the officer discharges his firearm.

I can't get the video to play due to the demand (most likely for the better).

It's going to take a bit to get the uproar going, if it happens. I wouldn't expect anything to take place until tomorrow.

... which is great because the temperatures are supposed to rise, and when the weather gets nice in Chiraq, you better take cover. :(

No shots fired in that video. They stopped the video just before the shots were fired.

Interesting. So is there any reason not to charge all criminals with the highest possible crime, maybe even one where the possibility of conviction is remote?

They can add charges to the indictment, or amend it as needed.

For those of us that dont want to watch some dude die, what does the video show?

A little under 7 minutes long. First 5 minutes are primarily cop car driving on streets with lights on responding to call. Arrives at scene as the victim attempts to flee on foot. Victim proceeds to run/walk down center turn lane of 4 lane street. Walking away from camera. Cop cars approach from opposite direction and stop. At least two cops get out and approach victim. Victim sticks right hand into jacket pocket and retrieves something. Walks, angling slightly away from cops on foot. Shot from a distance of 20 feet or so. Falls to ground. Cop approaches and kicks object away from body.

You do see the result of (I think) three shots with the pavement flying up as the round passes through the body. The other 13, including shots in the back were not on the vid. However, you don't see the shooter as the police car camera was turned to the right and the shots came from the left.

No, I didn't watch the video at all. I just took a guess.
