Sense-of-humor factor seems to be fading in this here thread. Time for a little vacation.

Need them little smily guys... ;-) Besides, maybe the new coach will be fully experienced in this kind of thing and doesn't consider the deep end of the pool to be a challenge... Don't give up Owsla, the season is coming to and end and you need to be ready to report on the search process. :-)

I never lose my sense of humor even in August and september of a baseball season.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Well, it's probably my last 120 minutes of in-person Spartan hockey this weekend. It's going to take a herculean effort to not cry after the final buzzer on Saturday.

I hear you. Tough to leave something you've just about poured your heart & soul into for 4 or 5 years. Good luck in your next endeavor.

.....

So long also to 9th place. We hardly knew you.
Ferris State 2, Ohio State 2 and the Buckeyes get a point.

Don't give up hope of returning. When I was at State in the 1960's I figured that I had seen the last of Spartan Hockey in 1968. Moved back to the area and got season tickets shortly afterward in 1977. We had the same seats for 29 years through three coaches.

There will always be another time, even if you have no idea what the circumstances may be. Nevertheless, your passion for MSU hockey will definetely be missed. I can't ever quite recall another student with so much dedication to the hockey team. It was good to see.

As for the the game, I think we are quite visibly hamstrung without the likes leveille, Grassi etc. Our powerplay entry into the zone is just brutal without Leveille's speed. Anyway, while i would liked to have seen more goals, a 2-1 win works just fine.

Tonight will have no impact in any way for our spartans in the standings. Yet, this game is an absolutely huge, must. win. For the seniors, for coach Comely, for aallen, we cannot lose this game. We just can't.

Did anybody else find the posters last night to be strangely touching and sad? The one of Gazely, Shean and Comley?

Well, many tears were cried by yours truly after the buzzer. It was a strange mixture of emotions after the buzzer: Elation for the win, yet a cloud of tremendous melancholy was looming too. But, I must admit, I was in very rare form tonight during play. I set an awesome standard.

I shook the hands of multiple individuals tonight, many of whom likely post or lurk either here or at tRCMB. Many thanks to those individuals. I will be forever grateful that I was accepted into the MSU hockey community.

Glad the team could send you out with a win. They probably should have sent you down there for senior night. Would have filled out the ceremony a little bit more:p

Nevertheless, I am very relieved for the victory. It was great to get the final win and sweep for the seniors and Comley. The little recognition thing was a touching conclusion.

Comely's tenure here spans nearly half of my lifetime. It's strange how time flies by as I can still vividly remember the Mason years. But i've had some amazing memories at Munn over the last decade and that national championship will likely go down as the most incredible moment ever for me as a fan of anything. I doubt even another NC could top it. I also doubt i could even sit through another NC game as that one practically killed me.:p

So I guess thanks for the memories, coach.:)

Whatever the cost, it's probably better than the flight schedule/dates the Spartans have been left with. The ride from the airport to the arena may get them on the ice on time. ;^)

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Anson Carter dropped in for the banquet last night and got the Distinguished Spartan award. Also gave one of the best speeches I've heard at these events.
If that didn't fire up a team to do the unexpected this March, I don't know what could. Hmmm.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Has Anson been doing any coaching? :)

Well, you know, I didn't want to say anything :o

= = =
Actually I don't think he's got any coaching experience under his belt. Imagine him, however, cutting his teeth as OUR assistant :) I'm just saying ...

$1,581 for me on Monday.

I think I'll just pay the $7 for the B2 Networks feed.

B2N for this one.

Oh, and thanks once again - MaizeRage. Even token objectivity is a non-issue when it comes to informing your followers.

Andy Baggot reported today that Penn State has contacted Wisconsin about women's hockey coach Mark Johnson potentially being a candidate for the head coaching job at Penn State. Johnson is an intriguing candidate because he's had tremendous success at Wisconsin, but there's a pretty big difference between the men's game and the women's game, namely, the vast difference in depth between the two. Wisconsin draws so much talent that there's really only two or three teams that can be competitive with them in their conference, while there's a bunch of completely overmatched programs that are cheap wins. If Johnson moved to a Big Ten Hockey Conference, there'd really only be one program like that, and even that is up in the air now that Rick Comley is retiring.

Do you need to be reminded that D-1 hockey's Big10 participants are not confined within the borders of Wisconsin and Michigan?

Owsla, when you read his "stuff" you have to remember that he hates Comley, and hates MSU just like most MSU fans hate scUM. Don't take it personally, but it's a shame that someone who has a pretty well-read blog would stoop to his level of singling out one program like he does. The thing to remember is that he taints everything he writes because of that. I find his stuff humorus, but not factual for that reason.
