Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

So what are the chances this team takes two and survives to play in Ann Arbor next week?

It was a split series just two weeks ago with Alaska, but since it took an entire season just to get a sweep, against the last place team no less, I just don't see it. Maybe if this thing goes three games it could happen, but that would require them to win on Friday.

Maybe it's just the sort of emotional lift coming from the annual banquet, or things the guys have been saying before then - but I have this feeling ...
And, yes if we're considering what happens after that, it's pretty much pick your poison between Notre Dame, Miami, Michigan.

This is a team that is better than its record. If they can score some goals they'll be in AA next week. Given the way they've played this year I'd say it's a 50/50 chance.

That's why he's a blogger and not a journalist. Some of us actually strive for objectivity.

Arwen, GREAT point! He's a blogger, NOT a journalist... Of course, he can be described in other terms as well, but just the fact that he is a scUM alum kind of says it all, doesn't it?

B2 or radio tonight?

One with an obvious personal vendetta. I guess I'd have a grudge if I held this obsessive belief for years - and vainly tried to convince anyone who would listen - that one of my buddies was somehow vindictively dismissed by an incoming coach wanting to build his own program. Mike Porter has moved on; why can't the Blog?

We have to be up early tomorrow, so listen to the first period then toddle off to bed.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

I'd least like to go to Yost if we win this round but Miami is the team we clearly match up the worst against.

But we gotta beat Alaska first. Somehow, I am actually optimistic. I would feel fantastic if we had leveille.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

If the Spartans arent' ****ed off about last night, then it will be over. I'm tired of getting apologies from the CCHA about bad calls, and mistakes. (net off, play should stop) However, the play should not have been to that point. Also, Comley being attacked (maybe accousted is a better term) after the game and Woodward having to protect him should have everyone ready to make a point.

Gotta shoot the puck boys, gotta shoot the puck.

Details? No recap here (as usual, hardy any recaps at all) and just a sentence with the score and OT details on CHN and as well nothing in today's online edition of the LSJ.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

The net came off the moorings before the overtime goal was scored. Apparently, you do not have to blow the whistle when that happens anymore. Then, after Comley did his post-game interview, he was shoved around by two Nanook fans. Rob Woodward and Adam Nightingale had to break it up and escort Coach to the locker room. Classy. A loss is a loss, but it's hard to keep losing this way. I've never experienced a season with so many apologies from refs...it's about time for something good to happen to these kids.

Uggh, that's just sickening. Rob and Adam should've crushed those fools.

The issue with the fans and Coach actually happened before the post-game interview. I was listening to Scott Moore talk about it (was I the only one still up then?) and he was actually a bit shook up, but he only heard it on Rob's mic. I pity the fool that would want to mess with Woodward and Nightengale. Nights may not be as big, but I guess he's one that you don't want to mess with.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Well, I guess the team is going to have to Charlie Sheen this thing.

No, not the crazy parties, but become Bi-Winners. Now, where are we gonna find the tiger blood to turn these players into warlocks?

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Of course, it's Alaska-Fairbanks that ends my last season of Spartan hockey as a student. I've long said that, from my perspective, convergence is a funny thing, but this... just... well... sucks. It sucks a lot, actually.

Can't speak for the knuckeheads that messed with your coach, that is uncalled for. However the net was nowhere near off it's moorings. I was at the game, had seats right on that net. It was not off the moorings.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

I will assume that the vast majority of UA fans do not fall into that category, rms, nor do I hope the feeling expressed on your board regarding Comley as a "disgrace to the league" is a general one among your group. The feeling seems to have been perpetuated by an irresponsible and utterly unprofessional blog entry by our own loose cannon (when it comes to college hockey), Tim Staudt (supposedly a professional journalist in print and on television). It's a real shame that people with a popular forum would jump to the conclusion that Comley feels UA doesn't "belong in the CCHA", just because he called Staudt, because he "knows how I feel about it," as this loose cannon said in his blog.

Of course, Staudt, long a decrier of October and November college hockey, has oft spouted off about UA "having no business in the CCHA."

So Staudt, shame on you for repeating something that should have been off the record in the first place, and shame on the other blogger for jumping to conclusions about just wnat that meant.

Incidentally, I for one was relieved with Comley and Hollis' mutual decision to part ways this year. This program is ready for someone else to lead. That in no way means I don't respect who Comley is, nor his accomplishments, nor my admiration for him as a person.

I don't like the guy, but in no way do I think he is a disgrace to anything. Even though I don't care for him, I have respect for him. He has accomplished a ton, and has been a good steward of college hockey. I think the vast majority of UA fans respect the guy as I do. I agree with you, MSU hockey is ready for a new leader. As much as I like UA beating teams like MSU, it's not good for the league to have such a storied, big time program, finishing 10th in the league. It will be interesting to see who is picked lead MSU from here on out.
