Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

I don't know what was said before 8pm last night - maybe nothing at all. Perhaps as someone said it was simply carried over from Thursday prds. 2 & 3. Gotta give Comley credit somehow.

The D looked really, really ready. Smart & patient with the puck, didn't get dominated as has been the case at times. And as our D goes ...

I hope what doesn't get lost in this is what an absolute clinic was on display in net on both sides. Yanakeff and Hunwick looked all-league. For my money it was a pleasure to watch.

Good for Joey Shean, too.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

We had a good start to that game and for a lot of it, I was kind of waiting for things to fall apart like at Yost but it never happened. By the time there was 10 minutes left i knew that we had just as good of a chance of taking this game as Michigan.

We looked aggressive on the forecheck, fast in the neutral zone and effective in the defensive zone. It was great to see and as Ken and Mickey said at one point: If at the beginning of the season we could flash forward and just see this game, we would probably all be really excited about the season.

Yanakeff is just awesome. It feels very reassuring to see a tall goaltender back there again. Maybe the height thing is just Ryan Miller flashbacks but boy do i ever feel confident with him back there. I think the team feels more confident, too. What is difficult about this is that Palmisano has played really well recently. No one can deny that he kept us alive in that Miami series and was great at Ferris but Yanakeff has just been that rock solid.

We absolutely need Josepher in the lineup. His patience and poise on the point to set up the game winning goal was excellent. And good for Shean, who has started to play more of a role in his final semester, to get the big time goal.

I kinda got the feeling from Ken and Mickey that they were slightly pulling for MSU in this game. Probably so Comley could go out with a good win in potentially his final game vs. Michigan. Maybe because we were pretty big underdogs, as well.

I was practically dying down the stretch, there. Hockey is just too **** nerve wracking.

Good effort by the Spartans last night. Notre Dame fans appreciate the help, although right now I am more worried about holding off Miami and Western Michigan (WESTERN MICHIGAN???) than I am about catching UM.

Nice win and a nice showing of MSU fans at the Joe as well to see it.

Also, that is potentially the last time we will see many of the Michigan seniors. I can't say I will be disappointed if the next time we face Michigan, guys like Hagelin, Caporusso and Rust are absent. It feels like they've been around for about 6 years.

Now watch us get a playoff series at Yost...

It was nice to see the place fall a mere ~1,400 fans short of capacity. Despite the fact that it ran about 2-1 U-M supporters. And about 1:1 yellow big chill creepy crawley nebulous rodent-emblazoned jerseys.

Grab your sleds, we're sledding off the sides of Munn tomorrow... :D

BREAKING: Provost Kim Wilcox: All MSU classes canceled Wednesday. University to remain open.

Know what? A reset really could be what the doctor ordered. Then perhaps I'd be less apt to stumble upon the sort of from-the-hip analysis from such outlets as "Western College Hockey Blog", served up by our friend Mr. Dilks:

It was a pretty uneventful weekend in college last weekend. The biggest series of the weekend out west arguably took place in South Bend, where Notre Dame and Miami faced off, and battled to ties both nights, with each team winning a shootout to take three points on the weekend.

With each team only taking half of the possible points, it didn't matter all that much that Michigan coughed up a gimme against Michigan State in their only game of the weekend.

Yes, the same reliable source who informed his audience a few days ago that when a certain recruit decided to forego his commitment and instead cast his lot with another college, his brother's scholarship offer was pulled.

Did Comley really say that at a press conference?

I guess i am not sure exactly how to connect all of this together. Care to elaborate? I guess most of it would have to do with me being unfamiliar with who these siblings are.

Anyway, 2 months ago, if anybody had to predict which team, the hockey team or the basketball team, would completely mail the season in and become an embarrassment, would anybody have predicted Izzo's squad? Geez.

Sure. Jimmy McDowell decided for the OHL after making a verbal commitment to MSU. Subsequently, brother Jacob, also an MSU commit, either ultimately decided not to come to MSU of his own accord because of his brother's decision, or our hockey program made the decision to punish the brother. You decide what's more likely. I have no idea (although I have an idea). That's not the point, however - it's shoddy reporting to say Jimmy bolted for another college instead. And if I'm nitpicking, it's because I'm so riled up by statement #1, above. I guess the only thing I can say to Dilks and his roughshod blog journalism is ... "did you see the f-ing game?"

Yes, I understand that I'm very sick and am at least slightly delirious right now, but did I seriously hear a 30 second discussion near the end of Comley's pre-OSU press conference about Justin Bieber?

Geez. I understand going young in recruiting, but this is getting silly. Actually no, the fact that Bieber's name came up means he's accepted a ride elsewhere.

P.S. Get well soon. Something's evidently going around.

The coaching stafff seems to be a negative (punitive) group from the last 4 years I have followed the team.

Coughed up a gimme? scUM homer. That was the most complete game MSU has played all season. F off, friend.

I have no idea about the inner workings of our coaching staff but I can't honestly believe it was revenge driven in any way. If both were offered, the staff obviously wanted both of them. What sense does it make to lose one of them and then sacrifice another player they wanted just out of spite? It's only logical to try harder to keep the player. I think it makes much more sense that he did not want to come to MSU without his brother.

That's just my opinion, though.

Not revenge just negative. They seemed to turn off the players. Sometimes honey works better than vinegar.
