Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Perhaps this is a more off-season thread topic, but why wasn't I told that they were selling four-packs of pre-packaged Melting Moments ice cream cookie sandwiches in grocery stores now?

I vow to eat three sandwiches during tomorrow night's hockey game. (I already consumed one.)

They have to do something with all that extra ice cream, now that they don't have a storefront.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

I was actually pretty pleased with tonight's performance, aside from that horrendously wretched first period. We looked better in the third than we looked in weeks.

Palmisano had another great night, too. It's often said competition breeds excellence. Palmisano was still giving up some large rebounds, but his play was solid otherwise.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Being a college hockey fan, and in the Big Rapids area, i attended the game last night. Let me tell you Palmisano is a special net minder. Each game we have played you guys this year the kid has played outstanding and yesterday was no different. I really focused an eye as well on #44 Krug seeing he was the leading Dman in the CCHA and he is a special player as well, while i feel he did not have his best game i believe he took a few penalties but as the Qb of the Power-Play he just finds shooting lanes and is so gifted offensively. We get spoiled with having Redmond on are blue line, and you guys are spoiled to have Krug he is the real deal. Best of luck the rest of the season.

Where did #14 Josepher come from. Haven't seen him all year.

Thanks for the kind words. Palmisano has indeed proven to be a fantastic goaltender despite a few streaks of inconsistency. And without Krug, who knows where our season would be.

And to Peanut, Josepher is a sophomore and played much more last year. I believe he was in for Grassi tonight. He laid a real nice hipcheck in the third period last night.

I looked at his stats. Why isn't his offense used more on a team that sorely needs more.

Comley: "Well, yeah, but the players — I'm not in their generation and they let me know. If you're not in their geneation, is this the right scenario?" Not sure I fully appreciate this - is this really a problem? I would think after last season's turnaround this wouldn't be an issue. I was surprised at the level of candor in the article. Best wishes to coach Comley in whatever he chooses to do next.

That is one part that puzzled me when i read this. What is he actually talking about? I am not sure how it is truly a problem either but I wanted more details and didn't get them.

and Peanut, I do not know why he does not play more. Perhaps Comley feels other parts of his game are deficient right now compared to the other d-men.

This was my understanding. The players tuned him out and really didn't hide that fact from him.

It suddenly dawned on my last night why Josepher is still on the roster. He seemed to be Comley's doghouse.
He had two huge hits last night , and if there's one thing that can turn a game around, that surely can. Reminds me of the 2nd intermission turnaround vs. CC. Wakes a team up. I'd LOVE Josepher to be on a third line. But he's great on the point in a power play too.

I suppose this makes more sense. I guess i didn't do a very good job of reading in between the lines.

I honestly have no idea why he is not in the lineup more, either. I just assume that Comley doesn't like something about his game. I don't like speculating about attitude problems, though. Any word on why Grassi sat?

Nothing amiss physically. The usual reason - an inability and/or unwillingness to put in the necessary work.

If it was then i doubt he would have been playing thursday.

But watching Notre Dame stick with Miami and often times outplay them on FSD right now, it makes some of the memories of last weekend's woodshedding a little more bitter. Still though, friday night was reeaaal fun.

YES! What a great game and a great win for Comley and the boys!

A fantastic, consistent effort for the entire 60 minutes.

Copying and pasting, because I'm friggin' exhausted...

Five years.

Five ******* years.

Finally. I see MSU win at Joe Louis Arena. And it's a frickin' awesome feeling.

Loved our play tonight. Absolutely loved it. We were fast, we were very aggressive, our defense was stellar, and Yanakeff had a phenomenal night. The last two periods of Thursday's game at Ferris left me very optimistic tonight, and it turns out that optimism was well-placed. What a hell of a night. I loved everything about our play. This is the potential of our team... this is how good we actually are. We have the talent, and, when we have our heads screwed on right, we're pretty darn good.

It'd be nice for Comley to play Yanakeff for the rest of the season. I have come to the conclusion that we, in general, just play better when he's in the net. I love Drew Palmisano, and he can be a great goaltender when he's on, but this team plays better in every facet of the game when Yanakeff's in the cage. Kid had an amazing night and deserves major accolades.

Overjoyed with our play tonight. Great, gritty, gutsy performance when we absolutely had to perform. Now, let's try to carry some of that over to Value City Arena next week.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

This was a huge win! Maybe we'll see J. Chelios back up front, play the six D that were on the ice, and generate more options at forward? Jake may end up being a good D man, but who is going to sit from the existing blue-liners now? I liked the effort and edge that everyone showed, I really hope this can carry into the rest of the season, but even if it just is ready for playoffs...

I'm not picking a goalie, but it does feel good to know that there are two top-level guys who can get into net, doesn't it? I'm not afraid of putting either guy in net, and I think the players will say the same. Here's the good news: I think that the two of them are very supportive of the other and the team, so we aren't in as much danger of losing one of the other emotionally.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

There's my team I know and love! What a great game...I especially liked how they played until the horn sounded in the 3rd and never really looked panicked after Hunwick left the ice. I was pretty impressed with how clean the game was and even the officiating wasn't too bad (that hurt a little to write). Except for the "high stick" call on Krug, which was a joke (P.S. I'm sure whomever turned my little squares red after the last UM game will like to call me a "whiner" again. Fine, whatever. I thought the whole point of a forum was that you got to state your opinion. You don't like what someone else writes? Suck it up. I do, however, hope you keep neg repping me because I'm hoping my squares will turn purple.)

As for the goalie situation. Coach needs to play Will the rest of the way, if he's healthy. It's been out for awhile that the team WANTS to play in front of Will and Krug basically came out and said that on his tv interview last night. I think Palmy can be a great goaltender...but, if the team isn't going to work as hard in front of him, play Will.

All I have to go off of is the U of M radio broadcast (ie, take with a grain of salt), but they initially said it was a clear kneeing penalty. It sounded like one of those situations where the defenseman is getting beat to the outside, and they almost instinctively stick out an arm/leg to try and slow him up. So maybe it was one of those situations where even if the ref can't see specifically whether the forward got clipped by an arm/stick up high or a knee down low, it's still clear that an infraction occurred.

All I had to go by was the TV view, along with the multiple slow motion replays, so take it with a grain of salt.... (right).. it was a bad call by the refs who felt that they just had to call something. No penalty should have been called just like the majority of the game.
