Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

Since 5 min were reported by local TV news WXYZ Channel 7- this is important breaking news.

From Ann Arbor, standing at on the athetic campus area:

Nothing has happened.

We have seen people walking around. Students and Ann Arbor residents have opions.

But nothing has happened.

Check back with them in 30 min.

So much time to report once again, that nothing has happened.

That may be true but could you imagine the guts you'd have to have as an AD to say you wanted to bring in Leach and what the President would hear from the board? If something, anything, happened, not only would the AD get fired, the president might too.

The university lawyer would ask, "before you hire that guy, are you telling me there is nobody else in the US that could do the job and not present as much risk? If there is somebody else, how much 'worse' of a coach is he? Does the risk that we might lose a few more games outweigh the risk that we knowingly introduced a guy into our program that got fired from his last program for what happened with James' kid?" The AD would not be able to answer with a definitive "yes, if we dont' hire Leach our program will be that much worse off" So, the answer would be "hire Edsall, or anybody other than Leach".

Even if James' kid embellished, Leach should never have put himself or the university in that situation. I agree that Leach needs to step down a notch, prove he is more than a whackjob and earn his way back into D1 HC level.

I mean, he got fired from the only university that would hire a guy who got fired from his last job for abusing basketball players...who in their right mind would make him the #1 guy for their program?

I wasnt arguing he should be hired, I dislike Mike Leach. I said he should win his lawsuit against Craig James. I got ridiculed often for openly advocating the U of M NOT hire him.

5:35, Channel 4 is reporting that RR is STILL the coach. :(

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

5:36, Channel 7, nothing has happened, RR is still coach, even though others are reporting otherwise.

In other news, a buyout is required for Hoke, Harbaugh is not coming.

to repeat, still nothing has happened.

Rivals is reporting that no decision is expected today. If that's true, this thing is getting bizarre in a hurry.

ESPN still reporting "Rich Rod fired". So, um... huh?

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

I hope he wins that...Craig James sucks and he as if it wasnt possible he actually made himself look even worse in the 30 for 30 about SMU.

So you hope he wins a suit that you also said should prevent him from being hired at MN? I could have you mixed up with someone else...

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

About that Stanford band story... Statement here:
The San Francisco Chronicle has issued a correction to the item excerpted in the post below: "A report before the game that the Stanford band had been banned for a halftime performance was incorrect. Neither school's band was scheduled to be part of the halftime show, which featured the Goo Goo Dolls. Each band was limited to a six-minute pregame show." Obviously, then, this post (based on that report) was also incorrect. Dr. Saturday sincerely regrets the error, even more than it regrets the continued infliction of the Goo Goo Dolls on national television audiences.

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

I think David Brandon just wants to make sure that ESPN spends the entire Ohio State game talking about Michigan.

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

Total speculation on my part, but it's clear to me Brandon doesn't want Rich Rod, but at the same time, that doesn't mean he won't be back next year. They waited this long for two reasons, the buyout and Harbaugh. If Harbaugh wanted the job, Rich Rod would be gone right now, but since it appears Harbaugh isn't interested, Brandon needs to decide if there's another homerun candidate out there right now or if it's better to stick with RR for one more year and hope that another homerun candidate emerges.

Also, Petrino vs. Tressel? Bleh.

Well, the Detroit media is also backing away from the "Rich Rod fired" story as well.

Who's out there that wouldn't be palatable now but would be palatable after another season of, well, seasoning? Hoke? Malzahn?

Can they really afford to keep RR another season with a horrific defense that shows no sign of improvement, when you consider a) their current recruiting class, last I'd heard, is pretty suspect, to put it kindly, and b) it's hard to imagine the next one being any better given RR's uncertain future and the likelihood that they won't be much better than 7-5 considering the aforementioned defense and Robinson's continued fragility?

Wait, why am I giving Michigan advice? Keep Rodriguez! Better yet, fire Rodriguez and hire Ty! You know you want to!

That was one of many reasons I didnt want him hired. That suit I agree with, suing your former school, a third law suit coming, reports of well, douch-ish behavior going back to lord knows when. (including at the Insight Bowl where they played the Gophers) Any one of those things I could let go but there is a reason why Miami didnt even give him a look. He is a heckuva coach, but not so great as to ignore all the baggage.

I think J.D. nailed this...if Harbaugh wanted the job RichRod would be gone.

It's a good question, no doubt. I obviously can't answer that question. The college football/football landscape is constantly changing. The problem that comes up is what does Brandon do if he doesn't see the clear cut guy to take over right now? Do you settle on a 2nd tier coach just because?

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

When we see the white smoke billowing out of Schembechler Hall, then we will know that RichRod has been fired.

I would read the smoke more that the college of wolverines have decided on a successor, and that they off'ed RichRod.

They would use black smoke when the successor was in place.
