ESPN still reporting "Rich Rod fired". So, um... huh?

Michigan could only be that stupid... I swear, nobody has any patience. I know some UConn fans are happy to see Edsall go because he hasn't gone 9-3 or 10-2.

We've secretly replaced the Arkansas defense with the Michigan defense.

Let's see if anyone notices.

I'm all for being patient and yes, they've won more games each year, but come on. You have to look at more than that. They haven't been able to compete, nevermind beat, good teams and they've gotten worse on defense each year.

Any UConn fan happy Edsall is gone after getting them to their first BCS game is delusional.

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

Over the last three years Michigan's defense has allowed the 3 highest point totals in school history. And it's not even close. They gave up over 450 points this season. And if Mike Martin takes off and turns pro (I don't think that's likely right now), they are flat-out ****ed defensively next season, 7 ways 'til Sunday.

Look. They took their shot. It didn't work. It's time to move on. There is no evidence that Rodriguez and his coaching staff can improve this defense, given that the best case scenario for Rodriguez would be another DC (their 3rd in 4 years), and the offense has stalled in nearly every big game. The offense was not effective in the 2nd half against Michigan State, against Iowa until it was too late, and against Wisconsin, Ohio State, or after early in the 2nd quarter in the bowl game. It's nice and pretty to roll up 60+ against BG and Illinois, and to put big numbers up against Indiana and Purdue. But when the chips were down against the big boys, they weren't there.

I'm convinced that Brandon was either 1) convinced that Rodriguez must go regardless of the bowl game result, or 2) very close either way, and the bowl game forced Brandon's hand and thus sealed Rodriguez' fate. Right now, for the moment, I've got to lean towards #2, and that Brandon is getting his ducks in a row before he starts making announcements.

Oh, and Patman, about a decade ago, Nebraska broke off Solich in what turned out to be a 10-4 season. They're just now getting back to where they should be.

There's a perception in some fans that Edsall's near or at his peak of what he can do with UConn. Our winning the BCS slot didn't come without a lot of question marks, and came in a season known to be a down year for the league as a whole, and the near-term projection for the Big East with TCU coming aboard is that there's some rough times ahead for everyone not TCU (I would have put WVU and Pitt on this list pre-bowl season, but their coaching carousels are having a pretty damaging effect on things right now).

I don't necessarily agree with this, just because we don't yet know what the impact of a Fiesta appearance will be on the recruiting. And four straight bowls is nothing to sneeze at even if we lost two of them (and the other two were like ninth-tier). It would've shown through in the next five years what Edsall can really do, and since we can't get that now, might as well look to see what someone new will offer us.

Right, it's not like he's stalled like a Tom O'Brien at BC. Edsall took UConn to its highest point in a BCS game THIS year. I just think it's hard to conclude that one BCS appearance is automatically his peak.

Picked off by a guy who shouldn't have even been playing to seal the win...

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

Has Pryor already sold the MVP trophy?

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

So what will Sweatervest say when Pryor and the rest of his posse go pro despite their "pledge"?

To just prove how bad a decision it was to let them play many of the people on ESPN, the ones who kiss the butt of every major college and were showing the game in question said they should not be playing tonight. You gotta love a good farce though :)

And Priceless, my guess is the local car dealership will have the MVP trophy displayed in the owners office :D

It's a good question, no doubt. I obviously can't answer that question. The college football/football landscape is constantly changing. The problem that comes up is what does Brandon do if he doesn't see the clear cut guy to take over right now? Do you settle on a 2nd tier coach just because?

At this point, the right second-tier coach would be better than Rodriguez, much like Weis was better for us than Ty. He'd start rebuilding the front seven of the defense into something that a down-the-road hire (maybe Hoke after another stop, maybe Malzahn, maybe another interesting coordinator) can turn into a winner.

I am amazed Sweatervest would take their word for it. He's essentially telling them "Be my indentured servant for a year." They have the opportunity to go pro and earn millions of dollars, even if there is a Rookie Pay Scale in the new CBA. I would promise whatever I had to and now that the game is over I'd thank Tressel for the place to showcase my talents and I might donate part of a game check to the school, but I'm going pro. Especially since he tried to foist that pathetic deal on me.

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

I want all of them to turn pro just to further prove what a sham this is.

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

After 9 straight losses to SEC schools, Ohio State finally learns the key to success vs. them.

Ineligible players.

Yeah, except for the part where Weis only won with Ty's recruits. Weis was a TERRIBLE coach and an even worse recruiter.
