It's going to take a major BCS school getting the death penalty before anything changes. And even if it happened, which it won't, it probably won't discourage all of it.
Clearly not. I understand the logic of the death penalty, but in the end the only one's that truly suffer are the kids in the program that were on the team legitimately.
Yep, let's just let the schools run scot-free then.
That's not what I mean. That punishment never punished the people at the school who were involved, it never punished the boosters who were involved, and not the players. The only ones that genuinely suffered were the players that were there legitimately, not getting paid as well as the students who basically lost their football program for 30 years. I'm all for punishment but it's got to punish those that commit the crime.
How do you propose to do that?
So would you argue that the use of the death penalty on SMU did change things for the better? Just curious. It was a perfect storm for SMU, they had been caught too many times before, they were ****ing off the SWC big dogs and they had a ****ed good team. Put that in a media market like Dallas and it will hit the fan. All the schools were open about the cheating that was going on (why was Dickerson not put through the ringer over the car?) The NCAA can make an example out of them to scare schools like Texas into not being so ****ed in your face about it because 95% of the college football world had no idea who SMU were. If it had been anyone else in the SWC there is no death penalty.
It would take an epic meltdown for the death penalty to be used again. I mean it would probably need to be Auburn having another Cam Newton in a couple years and them not falling on the sword. SMU and the SWC were arrogant, they thought they could get away with murder. No way a BCS conference lets that happen again.
Far, far better than the death penalty.
All you need is the IRS.
If the funds are being hidden from the NCAA, for sure, the attempt is to hide them from the IRS.
Find info, make sure it's solid, and call the FBI/IRS. After seeing their press conference on Wednesday, I don't get the feeling that they like screwing around.
Money is money, taxes are needed, and fines can be big. Go for it.
I thought Tebow went to Florida

It's hard to believe, but UCONN won the right to lose money by being the Big East's BCS participant. According to the New Haven Register, the school is now set to lose at least $2.5 million on the deal.
The main reason is the bowl ticket guarantees that participating schools have to make. UCONN will probably have to eat some 10,000+ tickets at face value prices that start at $111. Unless it's for the BCS national championship game, those prices are ridiculous as proven by the secondary market. Let's take a lower level corner seat for the Fiesta Bowl. The face value of the ticket is $235. I can buy that ticket right now on StubHub for $50, plus service fee. Ironically, the Fiesta Bowl takes StubHub's money to be the most prominent advertiser of its official bowl Web site.
How about the TicketCity bowl between Northwestern and Texas Tech? With the bowl being sponsored by a secondary ticketing site, tickets there were cheaper than what the schools were selling from the second the teams were announced. How much do I love my school to buy a ticket I can get for $30 for $75, when I'm already taking on huge travel costs by traveling around the holiday season?
That student experience fund idea wouldn't be that bad of an additional carrot to any of the other conferences. Him and a few other big donors chipping in to get a few of those going, that wouldn't take that long at all.
If you want to burn your corneas, go to ESPN2. Nova vs. Eastern Washington with their red turf. Boise blue is fine because it's dark, but the red is way too bright.

Hell, it just might be the thing that unlocks cold fusion for us.I wonder what would happen if you put an Oregon Uniform on that field? Would it be like dividing by 0?
