Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I just saw that, but the committee can pick any team they want from the pool of eligible teams. I'd guess they'd want LSU's fanbase vs Arkansas'

If it was anyone other than Arkansas, I'd agree. But I don't think attendance is hurt one bit by picking Arkansas over LSU. So I think they'll go with the team that won on the field.

Andrew Siciliano
Cam Newton and Auburn improve to 0-13 - sarcastic, sure. However, many, if not most, people around football think it's inevitable.

Fiesta: Nebraska/Oklahoma vs Big East (West Virginia/UConn)
Orange: VA Tech/Florida State vs At-large (Stanford?)

Where Stanford and the Big East winner go largely depends on who the Big East winner is. Orange has the first choice, and if it is WVU they will likely want them since they would travel well, at least moreso than one would expect Stanford to all the way to Miami. If it's UConn, though, they might prefer Stanford over uncertainy of how big of a travel contingent UConn may have.

And attendance is def going to be a consideration if FSU doesn't come back from this early deficit.

right now the UConn chatter is that Fiesta will be hard to get many people there... Orange will get a lot of people. Lots of comments about "to bring more than 1 person it'll cost a ton"... I don't think UConn football fans will budget what fans from other programs will accept for a bowl game of that stature.

edit: of course we'll have to score and not commit personal foul penalties first.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

On a decidedly different note from Championship saturday, the ESPN Big Ten guy just retweeted somebody saying the Minnesota coaching search is over.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Osborne was down...that'll be an interception and 1st down for Neb at the 13. They'll have a golden chance to put the game away at 17-0 early in the second.

Don't believe it until it's announced. If you've been following it, it's been the biggest cluster**** since, well, as long as I can remember. There's been more than a dozen times where the job has been offered to one person or another.

PICK TO PICK SIX!!!! woo!

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

OU misses what's basically an extra point distance FG, although the ball was on the right hash and created an extreme angle.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Oklahoma woke up. 20-17 Nebraska.

Would be tied but the OU kicker missed a chipshot FG.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Weird play in the Orange Bowl qualifier. VT scores to make it a 3 possession game - game over. FSU blocks the (what else) PAT, runs it back all the way. 3 point swing makes it (sort of) a 2 possession game again. 41-26 VT. Getting late though...

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I guess that's the downside of FSU gambling on their young QB, instead of playing Ponder.

4th and 4, game on the line, Manuel throws a bad pick. There's the game. Time to switch to ABC?

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

UConn with the ball and a 16-13 lead with 5:28 left...

Edit: 16-16 with 1:16 on the clock. Conn will receive the kickoff and have 2 TOs to work with...

And the Huskies hit a 52-yd FG with :17 left. 19-16

UConn wins the Big East and goes to a BCS game...probably the Orange against VA Tech.

And book Auburn.

So

BCS final: Auburn vs Oregon
Rose: TCU vs Wisconsin
Fiesta: Nebraska/Oklahoma vs Big East (West Virginia/UConn)
Orange: VA Tech/Florida State vs At-large (Stanford?)
Sugar: At-large (LSU?) vs At-large (Ohio State?)

What's the logic of TCU going to the Rose Bowl instead of Stanford?

What's the logic of TCU going to the Rose Bowl instead of Stanford?

From the BCS procedures:
For the games of January 2011 through 2014, the first year the Rose Bowl loses a team to the NCG and a team from the non-AQ group is an automatic qualifier, that non-AQ team will play in the Rose Bowl.

However, the procedures go on to say...
After completion of the selection process as described in Paragraph Nos. 1-4, the conferences and Notre Dame may, but are not required to, adjust the pairings taking into consideration the following:

A. whether the same team will be playing in the same bowl game for two consecutive years;
B. whether two teams that played against one another in the regular season will be paired against one another in a bowl game;
C. whether the same two teams will play against each other in a bowl game for two consecutive years; and
D. whether alternative pairings may have greater or lesser appeal to college football fans as measured by expected ticket sales for the bowls and by expected television interest, and the consequent financial impact on ESPN and the bowls.

Point D would seem relevant here. So, we'll see.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Taylor Martinez looked like a scared high schooler out there. Never seen a QB shuffle his feet and freeze up that much before.

That said, the play calling the entire 2nd half sucked. Doing well running the ball, so let's throw it deep and stick us in 3rd and long.
