Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

now that this has grounded into reality... in a fantasy world I'd like to play Oklahoma in Miami... but I know bowl ties and the world doesn't work like that... I don't want to see us get sent to Arizona as will happen and I would really like to see us play one of those cornfield state teams from the midwest... we're going to get pounded unless VTech pulls a JMU... wouldn't mind it to be against somebody interesting... being in DC I deal with VTech people all the time.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Apparently, Christian Ponder was supposed to be done for the regular season after Maryland (something in his elbow is torn), but talked his way into starting the Florida game and was told there was no way in hell he'd be allowed to start an ACCCG if NC State lost.

Beating Florida 31-7 with that story will make you a legend at FSU. I'd expect VT and FSU to meet again next year and another year with Fisher/Stoops ought to push them over the top. Nothing to be ashamed of tonight. Defense has slowly been wearing down all season and experienced QB's have been picking it apart. Va. Tech's just better this year. Next up, beating Mississippi State in the Peach Bowl for win 10.

It'll depend on who VT has at QB, I think. Taylor's gone. While I've never been completely on his bandwagon, he played well tonight. They won't be the same without him. Of course, their defense will probably be better, so maybe you're right. If it ends up being a wash, they'll be back against FSU next year.

Point D would seem relevant here. So, we'll see.

True, but TCU could be pretty upset if they have to play VaTech or someone also lower ranked as opposed to #5 Wisconsin, whom a win against would do a lot more to boost their credibility.

Right, reading the point, it says the "conferences and Notre Dame" are the ones who make that decision. So TCU doesn't technically get to have a say in it.

I fully expect to see TCU in the Rose Bowl, but the BCS would seem to have an out if they want one.

3rd bowl matchup with Syracuse, and of course it's right in the middle of a workday. Going to have to DVR it. Hopefully it will be a good game. The Little Apple is coming to the big one.

The thing is that Miami (Harris) and Duke (Who cares?) are the only teams with returning QB's in Virginia Tech's half of the ACC, and there's no gaurantee that the next coach at Miami wants to start a turnover machine instead of their backup, either.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Well, the USC season wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Loss to Washington even though the Trojans outplayed them: loss on Lane Kiffin.
Loss to Stanford: How much did Stanford pay the clock guy? Seriously. To beat the #4 team at their stadium would have been great and them winning only because of clock shenanigans is OK.
Loss to Oregon: #1 Team in the country, I'm not feeling bad about this loss at all. USC had their chances still to win the game.
Loss to Oregon State: Ok, that one stunk. But USC can never win in Corvallis, and Oregon State spends their whole season getting amped to beat USC...
Loss to Notre Dame: Both teams were absolutely horrid and played the game with the back-up QB. Terrible play-calling by Kiffin and Kelly. Streak ends.

The second and third losses were acceptable. Over-all, there was only one unacceptable one, the loss to Washington. The fourth and fifth were understandable, even if the fifth was to a horrible Notre Dame team.

Are the actual bowl annoucements made at 8:15/5:15 or 9:00/6:00?

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Big Ten Bowl news is starting to come out.

Iowa-Nebraska in the Insight Bowl
Penn State- Florida in the Outback.
Michigan-Mississippi State in the Gator.
Northwestern-Texas Tech in the TicketCity Bowl.
Illinois-Baylor in the Texas Bowl.

So much for Florida in the Gator Bowl...

Iowa will play Missouri, not Nebraska

Florida State playing South Carolina in the Peach Bowl.

**** you, Spurrier.

Temple, banished from the Big East for sucking at football for too long, goes 8-4, beats Big East Champion 8-4 UConn, and goes nowhere, while UConn goes to the Fiesta Bowl. Bill Cosby is undoubtedly not amused.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Northern Illinois' Jerry Kill is supposedly the new Minnesota coach.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Oh shut up, Craig James, "congratulating" TCU on a fine season.

Blech. Now Herbstreit jumps on too, saying the Rose Bowl is still a big deal.

Way too much of a "be happy with what you got" vibe for me.

Honestly, while I'm not blown away by Kill, I'm going to remain optimistic. Let's play some football before pushing the program off the ledge.
