Leach was out as soon as the Miami job opened. A pirate must live by the sea.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

1981: 71,640 7-5 10th (Garden State Bowl)
1982: 71,060 7-5 11th (Independence Bowl)
1983: 69,787 7-4 16th
1984: 74,681 7-4-1 13th (Hall of Fame Bowl)
1985: 71,613 5-6 14th
1986: 68,052 3-9
1987: 59,256 3-8 (Don Morton year 1)
1988: 49,297 1-10 (Don Morton year 2)
1989: 41,734 2-9 (Don Morton year 3)

It's almost eerie how these mirror the gopher's recent "success". We had the Dump for 20+ years. Of course attendance would suffer. We've built the mecca the program deserves, gambled on a tight ends coach, and it backfired. We still have the structural members in place to become a good program again. We just need someone to finish the job.

Agreed that the Gophers have the physical infrastrcuture in place, but the cultural understanding will take time to develop.

Wisconsin works because as soon as the team sniffed a winning season, you'd get 70k+ in the stands. You'd get the crowds because games were a lot of fun, there was good atmosphere, etc. Minnesota has no real tradition of that thanks to the Dome and the school's long commuter history. Those things are changing, but it will take time.

But yeah, the timing of the Brewster hire (with the opening of the stadium) was about as disastrous as possible.

Maybe instead of stuffing kids in boxes, he can re-enact the Russian Roullette scene from The Deer Hunter for punishments. :D

Well said. Minnesota fans, for the most part, make me really sad. The culture just isn't there and you nailed it. Is it because we have entertainment choices in Minneapolis/St. Paul? Who knows. But I find our fanbases to be somewhat pathetic. For one, there isn't a single coach who isn't on the hot seat in the typical minnesota fan's mind. I honestly can't think of a single one.

I'll give that to wisconsin, they may **** dead deer, they may huff paint, but dammit, they're passionate!

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I hate to agree with Maize cause he is an A-1 dooche but he is right. Being a top MAC coach is better than being the Gopher coach thanks to the kill job Timmay did. I mean Kill's team did beat the Gophers which kinda proves the point.

That said, just like Edsall, it is a smart move because he is at peak negotiating power right now. If next year his team is not fighting for the MAC title he has no shot of moving to a BCS conference.

As I said on GPL...Minnesota fans take the worst traits of other fans and mash them together. I hate it but I love to mock it :D

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2010-final-coaches-ballots.htm

Shows how every coach voted in the USA Today final poll.
Idaho's coach had TCU #1, while Ron Zook had them #6.
Harbaugh had Wisconsin #8, which while ridiculous, makes sense.
Dantonio had Michigan State #4.

And Wisconsin's coach has Stanford #7, so we know what both of them were up to.

I like the Orange Bowl, since it fit my schedule better than the Fiesta Bowl, not like I would have missed it either way. The rematch against Oklahoma would have been cool, but growing up in VA getting to play VT in a big bowl game is fun too. Especially since I'll be in NoVa for the Xmas-NewYears week, and will be flying down from Dulles, so I'll run into a lot of VT people I imagine. Time to look for flights and hotels for Miami! 1-11->11-1!

Enjoy it! Go Pac-10! Go Oregon and Go Stanford!

Remember when Notre Dame vs Miami (FL) mattered? Yeah, now its the Sun Bowl.

How the mighty have fallen.

I almost feel badly for Boise, though.

A inch away from being in a top-tier bowl -- instead they play in the muffler bowl on 12/22. And where is it? Of course. Nevada. Hehe, I think Mountie is right about this one.
I actually bursted out in laughter when I read this (this for the first tuime, 8:28am Monday morning!!!). That is just too funny!

First, I'm not sad one iota that BCC got scewed out of a decent bowl, and didn't even get the chance of hosting their own silly Humanitarian bowl.

Second, OMG, how funny is it that 11-1 BCC playes BEFORE Christmas, and crappy Michigan gets a New Year's Day Bowl in Florida?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!??!

I'm rolling on the floor over here.

For Michigan's sake, book a one way flight for the coaches- if you are going to save the 1.5M by not firing them before Jan 1, lets' not pretend that the flight cost home is insignficant.

Ok, it's going to take a while for me to stop laughing.

BCC blows.

Hey! Winner finishes in the top 25. :)

This is fortuitious because they are restarting the rivalry in 2012 in Chicago and then 2016-17 home and home.

Hm, he did. Didn't even see that the first time. Though a few people had Stanford at 7, while Harbaugh's vote was by far the most egregious Wisconsin outlier. Like I said though, I don't blame him one bit. Just interesting to look at.

What am I missing that makes these votes make sense?

Did Dave Christensen do the best predicting? All 25 and looks like the best ordering, but I can't be sure I didn't miss any.

Florida State playing South Carolina in the Peach Bowl.

**** you, Spurrier.

Temple, banished from the Big East for sucking at football for too long, goes 8-4, beats Big East Champion 8-4 UConn, and goes nowhere, while UConn goes to the Fiesta Bowl. Bill Cosby is undoubtedly not amused.

He can comfort himself with pallets of Jello pudding and New Coke.
