Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Now we're ripping on BSU for being a weak academic school, because they're obviously the only school in FBS that isn't stella in academics.

Boise is a terrible school.

And plenty of schools avoid BSU like the plague. It seems only Oregon State and VA Tech are the only major conference schools with any stones to play the Broncos.

Bzzt. Wrong guess. Boise plays this card all the time, and when they did it most recently, Wisconsin had an open date and looked into it. The payout Boise demanded was outrageous. This "nobody will play us" line is crap.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Of course Wisconsin is the one you didn't mention. You missed the discussion below about how one of those games was a late fill-in for San Jose State dropping their game this season with ASU. It was dropped so late, ASU couldn't find anyone to fill the spot except Portland State. San Jose doesn't drop that game late on ASU, and ASU would in all likelihood be bowl eligible.

For Oregon State, if they had either Boise State or TCU off their schedule and a creme puff in either place, and they are bowl eligible. For Cal, if they drop Nevada and insert creme puff, and they are bowl eligible.

And of course for all three, if they had one less conference game, and insert a creme puff, and they are all bowl eligible, even with their other tough nonconference games.

I know I didn't mention Wisconsin. You suggested that if ASU had just played "an extra powderpuff" they would be bowl eligible. I'm saying, they've already played two powerpuffs- albeit not necessarily their fault. How many more powderpuffs do you want?

As many as your typical SEC team has typically played over the years? And hopefully ones that don't bail on you last minute so you have to add another FCS school. The math is pretty easy. There's a reason ten SEC teams are in bowls, and it's not about a stellar record against the other major conferences.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

ASU just needs to play powderpuffs that actually count in the standings.

Maybe if they played powerpuff teams they'd be in a bowl. They played powderpuffs and finished out of the running.

They need a couple of games with Sun Belt teams like the SEC does, then they'd be all set.

Well done you pedant.:D

They had one powderpuff that counted toward getting into a bowl, while on the other hand playing three teams in the top five, and playing all of them close. Few teams around the country had only one powderpuff on their schedule counting toward getting into a bowl. It's pretty simple math. But, hey, others are playing the system to the hilt, and cashing in as a result, so I guess most people don't really care about seeing good matchups.

I'm not arguing with you. ASU lost @USC, @Wisconsin and vs Stanford by a total of 6 points. Having only 3 NC games hurt them, especially since one is a rivalry game that doesn't count. The fact that they were forced to play two of those games left them no margin for error. Schedule a patsy from the Sun Belt and we're not having this discussion.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

It's hard as hell to find a team even with a year to go, to play you at your house.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Good thing the BCS is never wrong.

of course not... now imagine what would happen if say Army/Navy ever switched #2 and #3? Unlikely, oh, sure, impossible, nope.

edit: let us also note, probably under the threat of a major lawsuit, that the ranking systems provide their outputs and not their programs. This is certainly something I wouldn't allow if I were to certify the BCS. But, you know what, the way they do it is probably a lot cheaper.

Exactly. With two 5-7 teams and the aforementioned 6-6* ASU, the Pac10 could have had 3 more bowl eligible teams had those teams been able to play a pushover rather than devote that fourth NC games to a conference game, which means that another conference team has to lose as opposed to both conference teams picking up easy wins.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Is anybody following the Kerfuffle at UW this week? On sunday, 5,800 tickets went on sale for Student Season ticket holders for Rose Bowl tickets. They went on sale at 9:00 PM and were sold out in 20 minutes. Don't know what the restrictions were - I assume 1 Season Tix = 1 RB tix.
Anyway, within an hour, a whole bunch were up for sale on Facebook something?? (and probably other places) for many times their face value.

Monday, the Badger Herald (daily student paper) published the names of 35 of the sellers, along with an editorial calling them the 'Worst People on Campus' and saying a speical place in H*** was reserved for them.

Story about the editorial on the Channel 3 web page

Badger Herald Editorial

The people on the list are reporting all kinds of harrassment; both in-person and internet-style.

Shouldn't you be allowed to sell your ticket for whatever you can get?

In reality you should be able to sell your tickets (abiding by any scalper laws). But I could see why people would be disappointed that you are buying tickets for an event you don't plan on attending, leaving them without the opportunity to buy any unless they want to pay above face value.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

So, as a morning drive time DJ said today, just like the UW Athletic Department charging a 'Seat Tax' donation to the Athletic Fund for being able to buy those choice season tickets. What's the difference?

Yeah, that whole thing is pretty interesting.

Tickets went for $145 face value. Season student ticket holders were entitled to buy 2 tickets. In years past (I've heard) you couldn't pick up tickets until you got to Pasadena, and had to present an ID. That system was not in place this year.

I do think it's a kind of a jerk move to buy tickets for the sole intention of reselling them, but I understand it. I also understand the BH decision to print the names. Where the BH loses me though is that now Bargnes is saying "People are taking it too seriously. We didn't want it to happen like this". Additionally, they edited the original post to say this
This piece is by no means meant to be a call to take action against the above individuals, simply a tongue-in-cheek commentary about an unfair ticketing practice
Frankly, that's bull.

In the original print edition, here's what they said:
We ask that you ridicule the ever living **** out of these people...

Sounds like a call to action to me...
