Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

That Vagas Bowl between Utah and BCC is just hilarious! First of all, two teams that are leaving thier conferences meet up. Funny enough.

Then they meet up on December 22, when people are still shopping for Christmas. Who in the world is going to watch a bowl game on WEDNESDAY Dec 22??? There are prime time shows that people will watch instead. Heck, I wonder if Survivor will out draw these two teams.

Then, you look at the mediocatry that surrounds the two teams- lot of 8 win or less teams playing before christmas, except for WAC team mate Hawaii.

And then, looking at the rotten teams that are playing on the payout date of Jan 1.

I'm rolling on the floor with laughter on this one.

BCC got what they deserved.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I definitely feel bad for Boise. They need to find some way to get into a major conference so they don't get screwed by all of the ****ty teams in the WAC/Mt. West. BSU is a top 10 program in the country now and they shouldn't be relegated to playing in that kind of bowl after a 1 loss season.

You know they played Idaho this season right?

Since not playing them would be the single reason you have for disliking them, it seems like they did not get what they deserve.

alfablue's sickening opinions of Boise aren't really logical, if you haven't noticed before now. I get the feeling that he's just a sad old man that is irked because the "other school" got good and is now getting the national spotlight. It's quite sad, actually.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

What am I missing that makes these votes make sense?

Stanford needed to be top 4 of the BCS to get a bid, most likely, as they don't travel all that well. Harbaugh moves Wisconsin down, trying to ensure Stanford stays close to them in the polls, and Wisconsin doesn't jump them in the BCS.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

There are some ugly mismatches out there involving Big 12 teams. All three of these look like thumpings, if the Big 12 teams don't fall asleep or something.
Oklahoma State vs. Arizona
Nebraska vs. Washington
Oklahoma vs. Connecticut

Part of the Pac Ten matchup situation was a combination of getting two teams in the BCS, having USC hamstrung and ineligible. Further, they had a few teams, like Cal and ASU and Oregon State, where if they'd either played a softer nonconference schedule and/or had an extra powderpuff nonconference game instead of a 9th conference game, they'd likely all be bowling. The 6 win rule really does punish teams that belly up and play an extra conference game and/or play a tougher nonconference game.

Lets see, they bailed on their old conference so that the new conference would gain them a BCS bid, but then the new conference members who were significant then bailed. AKA- they went for the money grab, and while they got the bag, nothing was in it.

Why should I feel for them?

They turned their backs on the only team that fills donk stadium on a regular basis.

No, I laugh in their face.

And yes, I know they played, and beat the pants off, Idaho. But I also know that they walked away from that rivalry for money, only to not get any. LOL!!!!

I'm SO HAPPY THAT THEY CAN'T WIN AN NC!!!!

I'm also looking forward to the day that they have an acedemic scandal and a football recruiting scandal. Especially the way many of their "fans" turned on them. Awesome.

The fact that so many of you fawn over BCC makes me feel sorry for you. This is COLLEGE football, where the school part is supposed to matter. There is a pro version of this sport, you know?

The other school didn't get good- it continues to wallow in badness- BCC is a terrible school. they have a football team that does well, sure.

But if the president continues to focus on the football team, as opposed to being a university president, they get what they deserve.

So wait, you are rooting for a college kid to not only fail at sports (i.e. not win games) but also to fail at academics? Classy.

Because as we all know its the college kids who get to decide what the school does as far as spending, scheduling and conference affiliation.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

But if you told Butler and George Mason "Despite winning your regions, we feel we should put in Kansas St and UCONN because they are from MONEY MAKING conferences. So just go home." then you would scream how unfair it was.

I don't see anyone fawning over Boise State, we just don't go nuts against them like you do. I really don't care much about them one way or another.

It doesn't speak well for the bowl system that a team of their quality is playing in such a lousy bowl, while much lesser teams get much better bowl berths. But, the current BCS/bowl system is absolute rubbish anyway, so no surprise.

I don't know enough about OSU or Cal's nonconference schedules, but ASU played two FCS schools. How much easier do you want to get?

And plenty of schools avoid BSU like the plague. It seems only Oregon State and VA Tech are the only major conference schools with any stones to play the Broncos.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Now we're ripping on BSU for being a weak academic school, because they're obviously the only school in FBS that isn't stella in academics.

Oregon had them on the schedule last year and Washington has played them recently too.

Well, they don't allow you to use multiple choice exams for Underwater Basket Weaving classes in the SEC. Thats one of the things that Vandy sneaked into the conference by-laws just to give em a chance of being competitive within the league. ;)

Of course Wisconsin is the one you didn't mention. You missed the discussion below about how one of those games was a late fill-in for San Jose State dropping their game this season with ASU. It was dropped so late, ASU couldn't find anyone to fill the spot except Portland State. San Jose doesn't drop that game late on ASU, and ASU would in all likelihood be bowl eligible.

For Oregon State, if they had either Boise State or TCU off their schedule and a creme puff in either place, and they are bowl eligible. For Cal, if they drop Nevada and insert creme puff, and they are bowl eligible.

And of course for all three, if they had one less conference game, and insert a creme puff, and they are all bowl eligible, even with their other tough nonconference games.

Honestly, I do want the school to do better as a school. The problem is that it's been like this for well over 20 years (back when I was involved). BSU needs to clean up it's U act.

If an athelete chooses a school that they know (as does the world) isn't good- they get what they deserve. I'm sure every single one of the starting line up at BCC could have gone to Idaho for an education, they CHOSE BCC. So it's not that they are failing at BCC's acedemics, it's that BCC is failing acedemically to them. That is what needs fixed.

And I still think that the measure of scandal in Boise is right there- local money that has had nothing in the past, recent success but *not quite*, questionable acedemics, and administrators who have been paying more attention to the money store (football) than the University. It may not happen, but it sure seems like most of the puzzle pieces are in place for it to happen.

BCC is trying to play the BCS game. Thankfully, they are losing that game.

Has this been a tournament- they would have represented the WAC, and the rules would be different. Likely, they would not need to bolt to the MWC for the money.

And that describes how many D1 programs?
