Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

If Kanter was an SEC football star...he would have. Unfortunately for him he's just a basketball player, so the rules apply to him.

I see money exchanged, did that happen in the Cam Newton case? I think this whole Cam Newton thing is garbage and if they find out money changed hands they should strip eligibility and the rest immediately, but until then, despite a poor ruling by the NCAA, he gets to play... but even if you go by the Newton ruling that doesn't mean it means Kanter would be eligible.

*In the case of Cam Newton it should certainly be argued that he's ineligible as the money would have benefitted Mr. Newton in some way... its not like his unholy Rev. father was estranged.

And back on the field, the annual Duel in the Desert will be getting underway in a couple hours as Arizona State and the U of A battle for the Territorial Cup, the oldest rivalry piece of hardware in the country. Go Devils!
Gotta go with the Wildcats. :)

Nothing against Tempe. Had a great trip out to Tucson a couple weeks ago. Hiking in the saguaro natl forest, visiting the university. Great people.

Arizona State's on TV?

Arizona's done if this stays a fumble. I thought he was down but obviously very close.

Looks like a dumb decision but I think az knows their defense is done...

Heh. I have no idea what I'm talking about. Might get a good finish out of this game yet.

Down goes Stanford's best win of the season.

Why yes, it is unwarranted sniping at Stanford week in Wisconsin, why do you ask?

U of A should've beaten ASU the classy way, you know, by hoping they would miss an extra point. :P

Edit: Looking at the recap now and seeing that UA missed two extra points, I can't tell if that makes my comment make more sense or less sense.

I mean really, UW is going to the same bowl if they're #4 or #5. With us it's #4 or nothing, do you really want MSU getting that spot?

That's literally the least likely format ever to be chosen. You're not going to get anywhere without guaranteeing an automatic bid to all of the current BCS conferences at minimum, and three weeks of neutral sites is not going to work. It doesn't even work in basketball, given the half empty arenas in the first two rounds.

I thought it was pretty clear that we'd drifted in to Fantasy Land, there.

If we had the power to get that format accepted, surely we could conjure up full arenas, good weather for all the games, conference committees who cared more about a great national tournament than their provincial interests, and and college presidents who admitted that their concern for the student athletes' educations has been lip service all along.

And everyone would get a pony!

Speaking of fantasy land...

Anyway the best system is higher seed home playoff games until the championship. Until then mythical national championships for everyone!

I'm still hanging on to my national title pipe dream, thank you very much:D

There's no way MSU can get that spot though for what it's worth. Only two teams from each conference can go to BCS bowls.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I guess that counts. 2 blocked PATs

Zendejas shames his family and the Sun Devils take it.

What an unbelievable, tight, hard-fought game. Multiple times it looked like either team was done. Can't say I've ever seen a team force overtime with a blocked PAT and then also win in overtime on a blocked PAT! Took me awhile to get to sleep last night after watching that one! Vontaze Burfict came of age last night, being a one-man wrecking ball for ASU.

Sports By Brooks has been all over the Cam Newton case. In his most recent column, he wonders if Mrs. Mullen isn't the key to this whole thing.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Looking ahead to next season for ASU, when they return 21 of 22 starters, their schedule looks pretty tough, with nonconference games against UC-Davis, Missouri, and Illinois. In conference they don't play Washington and Stanford under the new divisional format. Should be a real tussel for the Pac's first Southern Division title.
