Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Uh, yeah. That's going to happen when you play WAC games while others play PAC-10 and SEC games.

If you want to throw a hissy if/when a one loss LSU or Auburn gets an invite to the title game over undefeated Boise, by all means, go ahead. But there's no reason to expect Boise State to hold off an undefeated Big 10, SEC, Big XII or PAC-10 team this year. This isn't farking rocket science.

Boise should be #3 in the pecking order right now...No better, no worse. I understand that. However, if one of them loses and VT makes the ACC title game and even wins it...There is absolutely no excuse for Boise to not be playing for the national title.

Of course not, because the polls are biased against them. Boise should just be thankful they are allowed to play in the same division as these other ordained teams.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Best scenario for Boise or TCU is that Auburn loses to Alabama and LSU loses some remaining game.

It helps that LSU will not be in the SEC title game.

Auburn needs to lose twice most likely.

If Oregon and Auburn both have a loss while Boise is undefeated and the Broncos don't play the for the national title, I'm never watching college football again.

It's late enough in the season that 1 loss from Auburn is sufficient to keep them out of the title game. It's not how many you lose, its when you lose them.

Losing right at the end of the season doesn't leave them any time to rebuild their ranking. A 3 loss SC isn't going to help them much in the SEC title game.

January 3, 2002 called. It said, "if only."

The difference then was that every team that had a chance to pass Nebraska went out and lost.

Obviously if BSU and TCU lose a game this is all moot.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

If you are in a BCS conference and are ranked third, and someone above you loses, you are moved up to #1 or #2.

This is simply not true. It has happened over 49 times (!) that a #1 or #2 team in the AP Poll has lost a game, and #3 did not move up to #2, despite either winning or being idle. It has happened 14 times to SEC teams, 10 times to Pac Ten teams, 9 times to Big Ten teams, 8 times to Big XII teams, and 6 times to ACC and Big East teams.

The idea that the poll should be a ritualized ballot based only on last week's rankings and this week's result is common, but does not reflect real life (or the instructions to the voters).

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

BSU gained ground on TCU, but LSU is lurking and could overtake them for that 4th spot.

LSU is #3 (tie with TCU) in the computers, while BSU is #6.
BSU is #3 in Harris and USA Today, and LSU is #6, which is why they haven't passed them yet.

The 2003 Oklahoma Sooners disagree with you.
you are right about that, sort of. The BCS rankings themselves got it right and Oklahoma was 3rd or 4th. But the selection committee from the bowl game picked them instead of the #2 team.

I think the resolution for that was to move the national championship game to be a seperate game all together and make it automatically #1 vs #2, not allowing selection committees the chance to choose teams. not sure why that wasn't the rule in the first place, but whatever its the NCAA after all.

The polls got it "right". The BCS rankings got it wrong.

The response, naturally, was to eliminate most of the computer poll influence, the quality wins, and the strength of schedule, putting all of it into the hands of the pollsters. The AP took a look, and told the BCS to go screw themselves, leading to the Harris poll.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

As of now, it looks like a group of friends and myself will be heading up to Wrigly Field to do the ESPN Gameday thing... Has anyone ever done it? Right now, the main thing is trying to figure out when to show up... I assume that it'll be an open area with general admission... How early do people show for this? Any other tips?

Edit: nevermind I figured it out. The PDF looks different then the actual site list. It was Oklahoma, USC, LSU.

Ahhh. This is why Cal was able to keep it close with Oregon.

Video

There's another video where you actually hear the announcer say it's the second injury for someone who isn't even on Cal's depth chart.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2OFiHi_jE0g?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2OFiHi_jE0g?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

As one of the posters said: Maybe Cal can't afford Gatorade :D

Ha ha ha. I love that he even sidestepped over so that he could fall right on the ball that the ref had just spotted to be sure that the clock would be stopped.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

The stretch run for the contenders. There are 5 possible weeks left.

#1 Oregon (10-0): #22 Arizona (7-3), @Oregon State (4-5)

#2 Auburn (11-0): @ #11 Alabama (8-2), #17 South Carolina (7-3)

#3 TCU (11-0): @New Mexico (1-9)

#4 Boise State (9-0): Fresno State (6-3), @ #18 Nevada (9-1), Utah State (4-6)

#5 LSU (9-1): Mississippi (4-6), @ #13 Arkansas (8-2)

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

So TCU will be "In the Clubhouse" so to speak for the last 3 weeks of the BCS Season?

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Yeah, Harvard-Yale would have been pretty good.

eh, its different alright.

And a halftime score from the UMD-Mankato game that got bumped to today due to snow, 14-13 Mankato in Marshall. UMD seems to be playing a bit tight, and just havent put it in the endzone like they should today. And Mankato should invest in a tarp!

Hey Big, The RMAC, of which Colorado School of Mines is a member, announced its all-conference awards yesterday. I know your beloved GVSU team plays Mines this weekend. I don't follow Mines and cannot tell you a single thing about the current team. If you access the above link you can at least see the names of some of the players from Mines who received all-conference honors this season and familiarize yourself with a few names in advance of GVSU's game this weekend. Just thought you might like to have a little info on some of the players your team will play this weekend. Enjoy the game.
