Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

There's another video where you actually hear the announcer say it's the second injury for someone who isn't even on Cal's depth chart.

If he's not on the depth chart, how do they have an on-screen graphic of him ready to go less than a minute after he's injured? Versus can't possibly be that good.

The Cal coaches knew they'd be faking injuries and gave the Versus graphics department a heads-up ;)

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Ethics of it aside, that's a pretty big gamble by the Cal coaching staff isn't it? Who cares how well your 4th or 5th string tackle can fake an injury if he's getting blown off the ball every play.

Considering that Oregon has blown pretty much everyone's first string out of the water, it's not that big of a gamble.

"Not on depth chart" doesn't mean "not on roster" - typing in a name and number can be handled pretty quickly, especially when you've got people (normally students) whose sole job during the game is to stand by the stats crews while wearing a headset and relay such information to the production truck.

Hey Big, The RMAC, of which Colorado School of Mines is a member, announced its all-conference awards yesterday. I know your beloved GVSU team plays Mines this weekend. I don't follow Mines and cannot tell you a single thing about the current team. If you access the above link you can at least see the names of some of the players from Mines who received all-conference honors this season and familiarize yourself with a few names in advance of GVSU's game this weekend. Just thought you might like to have a little info on some of the players your team will play this weekend. Enjoy the game.

You do know that there is another thread just for the D2 football stuff ya know. :p

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

And I guarantee you that Auburn will get a lighter sentence than Southern Cal. :D

I dunno. If the FBI has stuff, Auburn is going to slam into a wall. They almost lost their accrediation in one of their past scandals from their boosters interfering in athletics *and* academics. And somehow, the same people involved in that and the 1991-95 sanctions are still in the program.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

A very comprehensive rundown of the situation at Auburn, including prior scandals, and all of the major players involved:

Seems to think that there's at least a possibility of Auburn being kicked out of the SEC.

Nah, this is business as usual in the SEC. It raises the likelihood of the death penalty for Auburn, but frankly I doubt even that will happen despite Auburn being a persistent repeat offender.

More like the NCAA. *If* they lost their accreditation, all of their programs are ineligble for any sport that the NCAA sponsors until they get it back.

Much worse is the fact that anyone with federal aid attending Auburn would lose it. It's the sort of thing one doesn't fark with.

I doubt it happens, though Lowder's the one that got them on probationary status for it and he's somehow still a trustee.

I don't think that this is correct. To receive the death penalty, a member institution must have been placed on probation (in any sport) within the last 5 years, and didn't Auburn's last probation expire in 2003?

CORRECTION: I'm wrong--Auburn was on probation in basketball from April 27, 2004 to April 26, 2006, so any violation between April 27, 2004 and April 26, 2009 could end up with Auburn receiving the death penalty. I don't know when the alleged violations occurred.

Agreed. If the SEC kicked out everyone for cheating, Vanderbilt would be awfully lonely. Unless a lot more comes to light, I'm guessing Auburn gets a bit of a slap on the wrist, even as they shine their nice new national title trophy. In other words, they follow the Alabama plan from last year.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

And the Pac Ten admits the ref Saturday blew the call on Burfict's facemask that helped Stanford score the winning touchdown against ASU late in the game, but reprimands Dennis Erickson for noting the blown call.
Too bad the ref in question couldn't tell the top of the jersey from the facemask.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

We'll see what happens, but considering where things stand right now, I think the chances of a slap on the wrist are miniscule. I think at minimum they're looking at something like USC, with a two-year bowl ban and a big loss of scholarships.

I hope you're right, but with the widespread problem Alabama had, they only got a slap on the wrist, and got to keep their BCS trophy. Admittedly, this is a different type of scandal, but I'm just skeptical after how light Alabama got off.

USC doesn't know about Bush until he leaves...but Auburn should get the same punishment even though they at worst knew he was ineligible and kept playing him? Bull****. Auburn should get double the punishment.

He didn't even say the call was wrong, just that he wanted the refs to huddle together to make the right call since 3 guys had a better view than the guy who made the call.

And that's the second time a bad call helped Stanford this year. USC only lost because of Stanford's time keeper committing severe shenanigans. Nice work Pac-10...maybe they've finally realized that you might want two BCS teams?
