Harbaugh suspended for the rest of the year

Just saw some wording of it- the B1G claims to not be punishing Coach Harbaugh because there is no evidence that he knew.

This is on the second page:
We impose this disciplinary action even though the Conference has not yet received any information indicating that Head Football Coach Harbaugh was aware of the impermissible nature of the sign-stealing scheme. This is not a sanction of Coach Harbaugh.

But I also think Michigan will get a court injunction to block this, given 1) the NCAA is investigating and takes precedence and 2) Other teams have given scouting reports to future opponents- which is pretty much in person scouting- but by real experts. Let alone sign stealing isn't actually against the rules- just the in person scouting. Oh, and Michigan also points out that the NCAA almost started allowing this pre-pandemic.

This will be interesting how it develops from here.

BTW, the issue isn't whether there should be a penalty or not, but if the B1G should jump to a conclusion so quickly.

I agree with this. Personally, I think Harbaugh should be thrown into Lake Michigan. Just because...

But I think B1G has overstepped it's control, and everything should be handled by the NCAA first, before B1G steps in.

Is there anything that says a conference can't impose its own penalty?

Yes. Apparently the B1G rules state that if the NCAA is doing an investigation, then the B1G can't or at least has to wait. And since this is specifically about breaking a specific NCAA rule, and the NCAA is investigating....

At the same time, this means that anyone caught scouting like this has to face the exact same sanctions, so expect a wave of info of this coming out. It was hinted at- especially when one school scouts for another.

Lake Michigan did nothing wrong. Lake Erie though... ;-)

All the reporting made it sound like this sportsmanship policy they’re applying was the way to be able to implement a penalty before the NCAA concluded their investigation. It’s an odd middle-ground suspension, though. Since it’s more than two games it must’ve gone to the executive committee, but typically when a coach is suspended it’s from all activities, not just games.

Did I also hear that regents wanted to explore leaving BIG if the conference levied punishment against harbaugh before the ncaa did? Lol ok then, leave

Yes. You should leave your conference of 100+ years over a man who will quite possibly be coaching the Bears or Chargers next year regardless of what the University is willing to go to the mat for. Maybe they should burn the stadium down. That'll show their true commitment.
