Holy cow, is paul feinbalm's bias showing. Yes, there are more than one questionable thing that is being alleged happening at Michigan. Sure.

But to compare some recruiting violations and a sign stealing to some other things that other programs have done (paying players when it wasn't legal) as being so much worse is crazy.

Embarrassing, sure. So much worse than other programs? Seriously?

My impression of Finebaum is he has zero bias, convictions, or f-cks to give. He's a barker at a carnival and he knows what his audience will react to. He plays them with alternating hot and cold showers.

Granted, the last time I heard him was during the Tree Saga.

Well, he will do anything to prop up the SEC, since that’s how he gets paid. Got old a long time ago.

To be fair, Michigan fans are triggered by Finebaum because he trashed Harbaugh nationally for the first half dozen years he was there.

Well, when he uses the words he does, sure. He really called Michigan the most corrupt program of all time. For a recruiting violation that was pretty minor and now a person trying to steal signs. And it came out today that stealing signs isn't even prohibited- it's about personal scouting. Which pretty much everyone who has played the game says isn't even a useful rule.

Remember, SMU got the death penalty for a little while, Bush lost his Heisman, and Pedo State among others.

Words matter.

These aren't exactly minor violations. He's also accused of offering to help other big ten teams against CFP opponents.

Relative to what other teams did, I think they are. Although some player pundits do think they are minor- like the in person scouting that was supposed to save money has turned out to be an irrelevant part of saving money. The worst about the recruiting violation is that coaches don't know how to use tools to know when you can meet with students- that was just stupid. But the real violation there was the alleged blocking of the investigation.

But other than a free burger, no players were illegally paid. Nor were children harmed. So relative to the worst violations, these are not the worst.

This is a lot like the Astros scandal. Teams can legally signs, but there are rules limiting how teams can do that. And if the allegations, like the Astros, one team went above and beyond in breaking those rules.

In a survey of 50 FBS coaches:
46% rated it 5/5 in seriousness. 4.2/5 overall across all coaches.
94% believe Michigan should be punished.
70% of coaches do not believe Harbaugh has plausible deniability, including 8/13 head coaches.
74% believe it is has played a role in Michigan’s rise.

And now Stalions is accused of being on the sideline dressed in CMU gear during the CMU/MSU game. It’s now on day 3 of CMU announcing an investigation into those allegations, which should have been pretty easy to refute if it was just a member of Central’s staff being misidentified. And then McElwain in his presser talked about the “sign stealer guy” and followed it up with, “Our people are doing everything they can to get to the bottom of it. We were totally unaware of it, we certainly don’t condone it in any way, shape or form.”

Again, I'm not saying if true there should not be punishment.

I'm saying that all of the above does not rank among the worst violation ever. There's no real threat that Michigan is going to get the death penalty, and there's no real possibility that Harbaugh gets his record taken away for protecting a pedophile.

What bugs me more than all of the above is how Harbaugh claims to know the rules and thinks that he's an example of knowing the rules. He claimed that a long time ago. And yet he's continuously been letting stuff like this happen. Even if he didn't know about it- how in the world does he keep finding people to work for him that do this- at a bare minimum, this shows how bad he is at hiring people who have integrity. But more than likely, he saw the signs when hiring, and chose to overlook it.

Maybe he goes back to the NFL, only to stay there for a handful of years before rumors start that players don't like him, again.

I am not surprised that Michigan fans don’t seem to think they should have punishment. if Ohio st was caught they’d be screaming like a fat sconnie seeing the cheese curds sell out while they’re still in line

“nuh uh everyone does it” sounds like my niblings preschool

Again, I'm not saying they don't deserve punishment.

But given the rash of odd sign delivery systems out there, it seems obvious to me that everyone does steal signs. And every talking head show is framing this as a "sign stealing" controversy. The real issue is personal scouting. However bad that is.

This is the same athletic department that thought it was fine cancelling a hockey game because they knew they would lose.

Fun stat to keep an eye on today.

The U/O for the Iowa- Northwestern game at Wrigley Field today is 31.

The most runs in a real game that happened there this past 2023 season was 29- Reds 20- Cubs 9.

So will Iowa and NW outscore the Reds and Cubs?

Greg, this is why you don't kick field goals from inside the 5 yard line when playing the #1 team in the country

Moron.
