College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

I'm not sure this is an upset. When WSU is waning they are TERRIBLE, and PSU is one of those programs that sometime forgets they aren't FBS.

Yeah, WSU and Colorado are basically non-entities in the Pac12. I'm not surprised by them losing to a FCS team, and even OSU throws one in every now and then.

Oh, just looked this up based on the Vandal boards- PSU was picked to finish 9th in the Big Sky by the coaches, 12th by the media. They are not projected to be a great FCS team. For sure they will get beat by Eastern Washington (who did score a lot on Oregon, I'll admit, but lost badly), and Montana (who beat NDSU). PSU is roughly like North Dakota football. Not good.

This isn't like when Idaho beat Oregon State back in the 80's, when one sucked and the other was a national power (relatively).

Kinda sad- being a Vandal of my era- we don't have that hate for the Cougars as old time Vandals, so I do want them to do good. But hearing more about Leach- well, seems like it should be spelled Leech.

Urbz outsmarting himself again. Elliot had 4 carries for 105 yards, instead of 15 for 200+.

It's Ohio State and the little 13. Minnesota and Sparty might stay within 2 TDs. The rest of y'all is gonna die.

Uneven performance tonight, but big plays can cover up many sins.

Plenty of room for improvement, but a road win against an ACC team is a good thing.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

That spin move was down right nasty. So many athletes. They're so deep. They played a sloppy game and won by three scores, on the road, against one of the best defenses in the country.

I think it is pretty crazy that in this conversation, Minnesota is mentioned as one of the teams that might stay within 2 TDs. I agree, with that defense, MN won't win, but they probably do have one of the better chances to keep it reasonably respectable.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

It's interesting to see all of the predictions based on one weekend of football. Almost as ridiculous as the predictions before the season.

A year ago, OSU was beat at home my VaTech. Everyone thought it was the end of OSU, as they had no QB. At the end of the season, some were arguing that OSU didn't deserve to get into the playoffs due to that loss. We saw how that worked out.

The OSU @ Michigan game could get ugly. Or it could be an epic game.

Agree completely; thank you for being the voice of reason. Two quick additions, which I hope you'll take as friendly amendments:

1. Teams improve over the course of the season, particularly teams with new head coaches; and

2. The point here isn't to spoil the fun of speculation. It's just a reminder that after only game, that's all it is.

Exactly right.

I'm stunned by how panic'ed some Michigan fans are- it was ONE game. They forgot where OSU was after one game. Not to say there will be this massive turn around, but I see no reason why things can't get better.

I kind of understand why Idaho fans are so bummed- as it has happened that way every year. But they did play better, and, again, the biggest plays were not about talent, they were more about mistakes. Things that can be fixed.

It's also hard to convince them that football is a game for fun and entertainment, too. I may be happy if Michigan and Idaho runs the rest of the table, but other than that, I'm not getting a raise for it.

For some perspective, Harbaugh's first game at Stanford was losing 45-17 to UCLA. So it doesn't happen all at once. You have to wait until his fifth game to upset the 42-point favorite #1/2 team in the country. :)
