College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

If the band annoys you, and you are not a fan of that school, it works.

I'm a fan of USC and their band annoys the hell out of me. When I went to football games at Maine (back when dinosaurs walked the earth) the band played more than just The Stein Song endlessly. The band only played that at the start of the game and after Maine scores (which wasn't often). Otherwise, they played other songs.

I rooted for USC last year when they played at TCF Bank and it annoyed the crap out of me...90% of the time, they were playing one of 2 songs, with 10% being other stuff...thats annoying. Hail to the Victors is a great song, I won't deny that, but you should have more material.

Saw my first game at the Big House last night (ND fan), and I was very disappointed in the Michigan band. You always hear great things about them, and the Michigan hockey band is fantastic, but despite only sitting 2 sections away from the band no one in my group could not hear them play once the entire night. We only knew they were playing when the crowd picked up The Victors. Seemed like the only time the student section reacted in any coordinated fashion, outside the fight song, was when Eminem came over the PA. The Michigan hockey fans defiantly put the football fans to shame.

To be fair, hockey doesn't have 66,000 blue haired old people who don't make noise unless it's to yell "sit down" at someone. Last time I was there it seemed like 1 out of every 4-5 people had earbuds in to listen to the radio call and *****ed when it got too loud for them to hear.

I was just referring to the student section.

Hockey student sections are always more coordinated. Football is a social event. Even if you charge, you'll have a whole pile of drunk soristitutes playing on their smart phones when it's 3rd and 3 in a tie game.

So if everyone has a loss ad Boise State runs the table they should be happy with a few roses or some tortilla chips? If only they had some older sisters who went to this school...

What?

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

Andrew Luck would like to let Mr. Davis know that Heisman candidates can be viable even though he is west of the Mississippi

No, no, it's much easier if we wait until there's one undefeated SEC team left and give the Heisman to the star of that team. That way people can send their ballots in even when there's still three weeks left in the season.

did you see the half time show? Or the post game show? That's when you can hear them better.

The real band geeks know to head to Ebel field well before the game to see the last rehearsal. Heck, I've not been to a game for over a decade, and seen more band stuff. But I AM a self confessed band nerd. VMB drumline-85-90.

The halftime show was entertaining, a little over the top, but entertaining. I was walking quite briskly to the exit in a less than stellar mood before the game was over so I can't say that I stayed for the post game. :)

I did get a laugh when after ND scored, my father turned to the guy next to us and just said, don't worry - 30 seconds...2 time outs...that is more time than you will ever need against ND. I don't know that I've ever recieved a sadder smile in my life than his girlfriend gave us after Michigan scored and we promptly headed for the exit.

Those were two god awful football teams on that field Saturday night.

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

I thought the Michigan crowd looked very impressive on TV, with their day-glo poms poms, etc. And it's never a bad thing when you can't hear their band.

Yet entertaining enough that Michigan is knocking on the door to the top 25. Both AP and USA today would have them at 26 based on votes.

I am seriously laughing here at my desk at that.

If they manage to defeat 2-0 Eastern Michigan this weekend, solid top 20 team. ;)

(can anyone link me to a major laugh out loud smiley? I'm dying over here... :) )

Craig James has them at 19.

Edit: I could waste hours looking at that site. Some of these voters... Mike Hlas of the Cedar Rapids Gazette: USF at 5, Baylor at 8. What?

Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News: (0-2) Georgia at 18. Only writer to have them ranked.

I know the AP poll technically doesn't "matter" at least for BCS purposes, but yikes.

Through 2 games, who really cares? Its not like there is enough information to say Wilner is wrong (although he has been known to have some screwy rankings). Georgia lost to #5 Boise State and #12 South Carolina...who's to say they aren't the 18th best team in the country?

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

It's a reference to the video that was posted earlier which explained why Boise can't win the spelling bee even though she spells every word right and everyone else screwed up. Among other things, Boise is told that if she lived in the Southeastern Condos she would be higher-regarded...also that if she had older sisters who went to that school she might have a chance to win. After congratulating her on a very nice spelling bee, the teacher offers her roses and later tortilla chips. I recommend watching it...the signs in the background are inspired.

Game hype does. That's the irritating part.

How many times did you hear that Unranked South Florida upset ranked Notred Dame? And it was big news.

Do you WANT to hear how UM should be ranked and Denard is leading the Heisman talks? Even though it was the team that sucked less who won....

It's the "news" coverage that we love to hate that pays attention to uselses information like this.

How far back was that posted- I would love to see it.
