College Sports Nation on XM/Sirius reports the SEC has officially accepted Texas A&M, but does not plan to add a 14th team.

I like how almost all of the violations are in Women's Tennis and Track.

I wonder if Boise will get themselves a USC style punishment? :D (Can't have them competing against the big boys now can we?)

More like SEC- they lose 3 scholarships for 3 years, and are forced to practice 3 fewer times each spring. BSU self imposed 3 fewer fall practices already.

Even the worst for the track team- the coach can not be hired for 2 years.

Not much to see, there.

Florida State forming an "Exploratory committee"

Whether this is step 1 in legally moving to the SEC without triggering Baylor-esque lawsuits or if FSU is just planning on throwing some weight around in the ACC is unknown. No FSU and a long term probation Miami makes the ACC quite possibly the worst BCS conference. You're stuck with Virginia Tech in the ACC and West Virginia in the Big East propping up a bunch of bad football schools.

And Bob thought a Texas team in the Pac was bad...imagine a team in Idaho in the SOUTHEASTERN Conference. :D
I'm sure Idaho is southeast of something.

Boise doesn't quite have the derp-a-derp necessary to make for interesting call-ins to Finebaum. West Virginia and any Texas "school" would be ideal for the SEC.

It's southeast of British Columbia. :D

The academics at UT-Austin put any current SEC school (save Vandy, of course) to shame. If they left for the SEC, it might raise the academic profiles of *both* leagues.

I think the SEC might be looking for a 14th member with Texas A&M...football punishment seems to be SEC level...

I don't think Boise would ever end up in the SEC, but certainly that would be quite geographically challenging. You wonder how many SEC fans would travel all that way to an away game in Idaho? I remember when Georgia came to Tempe a few years back, and there were news stories of Georgia fans complaining about having to travel so far.

You wonder? All the punishments are listed right in the article.

Also, the new Michigan State uniforms are hideous.

Didn't realize that South Florida was going to play Michigan in the Big Ten this year.

Nobody wants to talk about the high number of helmets finding the field? (or losing the head)

I saw this discussion somewhere on the internet; I don't remember where. Believe it or not, it's a safety feature: the thinking is that if sufficient force is exerted on your helmet, it is better for the helmet to come off than to stay on. By making it easier for helmets to come off, you are increasing the risk of a subsequent blow to the head during that same play, but you are also significantly reducing the chance of a neck injury.

Take that for what it's worth, because I can't really find a reference anywhere.

Based on my watching open wheel racing, that's pretty much what I figured they were thinking. But the big difference is most race crashes have one major impact, and afew possible minor ones. In football, the hitting isn't over until the whistle is blown. Maybe safer for the helmet to take that if your hit the ground, or hit another helmet- I just see the risk of a second blow to the head a LOT higher- and w/o a helmet, the degree of what's bad gets a whole lot lower.

Just seems odd to me.
