College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

I wondered why the one ref was wearing what looked like a beret.
I was thinking Ben Hogan.

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

As much as I thought Michigan's jerseys looked stupid in pictures, I actually liked them in game time. Although maybe I've come to hate their home unis so much that any change seems good.

ND's were great, I wish they would go to those for their away's all the time.

But yes, the refs caps were the greatest part of the game.

If MSU doesn't win next week, I will be much more than disappointed. Actually, if MSU doesn't beat both of these teams I will have a problem with it. ND let Denard lob up fly balls that you can camp under, and any pressure on Rees causes him to make terrible decisions. UM appears to be the exact same team as last year, except now they're willing to spot you 7 or 14 points before they figure out the pro-style doesn't work and revert back to Denard running everywhere.

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

Nice to see the gophers keep the game with #1 New Mexico State close, only losing 28-21.

Toledo turns it over on downs at the OSU 16 with under a minute left. According to the BTN announcers, that means Ohio State keeps a 23 year home winning streak in non-conference play alive. 2005 Texas and 2009 USC never happened, I guess.
If they were vacated due to illegal players they didn't? :D

About that last ND touchdown. Sounds about right.

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

It's actually a compliment to Mattison. Given a few years of recruiting, Michigan's defense will be the Big Ten's answer to Alabama's D.

You will not be disappointed. So far ND outplayed two weak teams and even then couldn't win. Now they play a good team. If they were playing in East Lansing I think it might be a 20 point rout. As it is, I think we'll stay close for a while but Sparty will roll against that D.

I have no problem with Rees. Although he has made two very poor decisions leading to INTs this year, he's also made some clutch plays and don't forget he was dead on against USF, that was just a conspiracy of sleeping receivers. It doesn't help that he looks about 12 years old. I have MUCH bigger beef with the defensive line, which was supposed to be this year's Great Leap Forward. They played well tactically in the first half against Denard but then lost the thread. Ad don't get me started on the secondary.

I liked the ND unis south of the neck. The helmets screamed "they're always after me lucky charms..."

Rece Davis tweets "Denard has market cornered on Heisman wow". Must be one ****ty market.

Andrew Luck would like to let Mr. Davis know that Heisman candidates can be viable even though he is west of the Mississippi

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

Dammit, if you overturn this the farking band will have to play their two lame-*** songs twice when they score five seconds from now.
The Victors was first played in public by John Philip Sousa's band in May of 1899 in Ann Arbor. Sousa later called it the "best college march ever written."
When you acquire the credentials to judge march music that are equal to the 'March King', then I'll consider your opinion.

They seriously only know those two. Probably the worst band in college sports.
The purpose of the Sudler Trophy is to identify and recognize collegiate marching bands of particular excellence that have made outstanding contributions to the American way of life. The Sudler Trophy will be awarded to a college or university marching band which has demonstrated the highest of musical standards and innovative marching routines and ideas, and which has made important contributions to the advancement of the performance standards of college marching bands over a number of years. The trophy presentation is administered and implemented by the John Philip Sousa Foundation
This sounds like something they would give to the BEST "band in college sports". So what band was the first band of all the bands to receive this trophy?? That's right! The Michigan Marching Band. The song is great, the band is great. Get over it.

And they havent won it since. Actually no band has won it more than once. Notre Dame is the most recent recipient.

Because it's a lifetime achievement type award. You can't win it twice. And wolverine, coming up with one good march a long time ago doesn't make them good anymore. They suck much like the USC band because they just repeat the same crap over and over all game. One of the reasons the mtu pep band is liked so much is because it doesnt beat a dead horse. Unlike other schools in the WCHA, you won't hear "no beer" more than twice in a game, etc.

Gotta give the drunk college kids what they want. Beer song two or three times a game.

ND and Michigan was a fantastic game. Great throwbacks (btw the ref hats are called "newsboy hats").

Question for Michigan fans, is this the latest start at Michigan Stadium? Because I've watched games when it was dark out, but they must have had the temporary lights. So how is this the first night game if it has been dark when I have watched games at Michigan before? Or am I just going crazy?

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

What you saw in the past were 3:30 kickoffs that ran into the late evening/night. When that happened, ABC, or whoever else covered the game, brought in temporary lights. This was the first night game in Michigan Stadium history.

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

Didnt see that part when I was looking around.
The Sudler Trophy is an award bestowed on one university marching band every other year, and was an annual award from 1982–2007. The award does not represent the winner of any championship, but rather a band surrounded by great tradition that has become respected nationally. No school may be honored with the award twice. The official description of the trophy is:
The purpose of the Sudler Trophy is to identify and recognize collegiate marching bands of particular excellence who have made outstanding contributions to the American way of life. The Sudler Trophy is awarded annually to a college or university marching band which has demonstrated the highest musical standards and innovative marching routines and ideas, and which has made important contributions to the advancement of the performance standards of college marching bands over a period of years.

In 2006, the Michigan-Michigan State game kicked off at 4:30 pm, which was the latest kickoff time prior to yesterday. There have been several other games that ended in darkness, but those would all have been October and November 3:30 starts.

And the 6th one is Oklahoma

*plays Boomer Sooner 5,844 times*

Repetitive band music is repetitive.

No Stanford. No Rice. At least they got FAMU, so they're not completely a pile of stuffy old white men reminiscing about the good old days of horse drawn carriages.

If the band annoys you, and you are not a fan of that school, it works.
