Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Yeah. TCU ****kicking some major conference team wouldn't have looked good.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Cincy goes to the Sugar to play Florida. So the Orange will be Georgia Tech vs Iowa.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Alabama vs Texas
Florida vs Cincinnati
Boise State vs TCU
Georgia Tech vs Iowa
Oregon vs Ohio State

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

And to flog a dead horse, I'll reiterate that Texas did nothing to deserve this berth over TCU or Cinci. Nothing.

"Sirs,

I imagine you pay sponsorship dollars to the Rose Bowl & "National" Championship game to help your product. However, instead of that I am going to boycott your product and cancel my citi credit card and not give you another cent. Enjoy your bowl games and your healthy year end bonus (ah-HA).

Sincerely,
Mookie"

"Sirs,

I imagine you pay sponsorship dollars to the Fiesta Bowl game to help your product. However, instead I am going to boycott your product and instead buy Imus Brothers' brand. I'd rather give that crusty old fool my money than FritoLay after this joke of a system you sponsor and perpetuate with your advertising.

Enjoy the recession and your bowl game.

Sincerely,
Mookie"

etc.etc.etc.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Pretty lame that TCU/Boise St are playing each other. BCS Power conferences suddenly afraid to play these non-AQ schools?

I also noticed Cincinnati was #3, meaning they were going to the title game if Texas had lost. Not sure I agree with that ranking, but its clear being the team that played more recently helped them.

Oh yeah, and regarding Penn St, i'll just say "i told you so." :p

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Personally, if those are the 10 teams I wish they'd have swapped Boise State and Iowa. We'd be better able to benchmark the MWC and Big East against the "power" conferences with my approach.

In a word, yup.

It appears I did what I thought was impossible, overestimate the greed of the BCS.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Oregon -2
Florida -10.5
TCU -4
GTech -3.5 (any other team would be big favorites over GTech)
Bama -4

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

They started the season higher in the pre-season polls. That's all it was in my mind.

Yeah. I'm just *****ing about this horrible system. Some small consolation is that these matchups aren't very interesting and I don't like Texas or Bama so I might be able to resist tuning in for these games.

Of course Cincinnati would go, they're the one still in a BCS conference.

It's amusing that we could have as many as three undefeated teams when the year ends and yet somehow some people find that this system is ideal and works correctly because strength of schedule and rankings determine it to be right.

There really is one born every minute, the BCS just makes it a debate over exactly who Barnum was referring to: The people that believe the BCS or the people that still follow college football with this horsesh-t system deciding who wins.

The funny thing is that despite the extra game we've gotten this way where there's multiple undefeated teams. Everybody's gaming the schedule to get this result... things weren't this cutthroat in previous bowl eras.

edit: the reason i say this is because in past eras there were few cases of dual undefeateds... stuff like that happened, and so did split national titles... but you'd think with a college landscape that appears more level you wouldn't have so many undefeated teams... but everybody is going out there and gaming their schedule... and its only right that they do.
