College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Uh. No.

1) They won't reach 14 since no one in the top 14 lost aside from Florida.

2) Miami already played Georgia Tech.

3) No bowl in their right mind wants a conference rematch in a bowl game.

#15 and #16 lost. The #14 team is BYU. I don't think it will happen, but it's possible. The Fiesta could also take VA Tech. Again, it's not about whether they deserve it, or whether it's good for us, it's about money.

Mark May "This is the matchup America has been waiting for."

Regarding Texas vs Alabama being a forgone conclusion.

Really? I'm an American, and I wasn't waiting for that matchup. Infact I would prefer almost any other matchup instead of that.

In all reality, I want to see one of the BCS Busters...as they are now required to be called...against Bama or Texas in the NC Game.

Give the little guys a chance for once, huh?

I think TCU or Boise could knock em off...I really do.

At least he took a stand. I give him credit for that. Sufferin' Succotash didn't.

Interesting, if TCU/Boise State was the Fiesta bowl its a way for the BCS to eliminate another undefeated team and make their system look a bit better.

ESPN's guru is projecting TCU vs Boise is the Fiesta.

Unless the bowls are required to take the AQ's before the at-large selections, I have no idea why the Fiesta wouldn't take Iowa/Penn State first. That's 40,000 tickets and the additional hotel rooms guaranteed.

Edit: Sure, it's the "BCS" as a group, but the individual bowls still have to do the best they can for their local committees, don't they?

Cincinnati is the only AQ not slotted.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

I'd be ticked, because I think TCU could take Florida and lay a reasonable claim to some AP #1 votes, while they'll get ignored for beating Boise in front of a half-empty crowd in Phoenix.

It would also be more fun to have as many undefeated teams as possible at the end of the year, and that game would take away the chance of one more.

For craps and giggles, comparing Gerhart and Ingram against the top 50 run defenses they played (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/fo...team/rushing_defense_byRUSHYDS_PER_GAME.html).

Ingram faced 2 - Florida at #8 with 113 yards and 3 TD and LSU at #44 with 144 yards and 0 TD.

Gerhart faced 6 - ASU at #18 with 125 yards and 1 TD, Arizona at #20 with 123 yards and 2 TDs, Cal at #24 with 136 yards and 4 TDs, OSU at #26 with 96 yards and 2 TDs, Oregon at #38 with 223 yards and 3 TDs, and USC at #46 with 178 yards and 3 TDs.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

If Penn State gets an at-large BCS bid, then Gerhart will win the Heisman.

CBSsports.com is projecting the following

BCS National Championship Game - Alabama vs. Texas
Orange Bowl - Georgia Tech vs. TCU
Sugar Bowl - Florida vs. Cincinnati
Fiesta Bowl - Iowa vs. Boise State
Rose Bowl - Oregon vs. Ohio State (obviously)

from cbssports.com

"The champions of selected conferences are contractually committed to certain bowls, unless they are No. 1 or No. 2. (ACC: Orange; Big Ten: Rose; Big 12: Fiesta; Pac-10: Rose; SEC: Sugar). If a Bowl loses a host team to the title game, then the bowl gets first choice at a replacement team. The rest of the selection order for 2010 is as follows: Orange, Fiesta, Sugar.

One champion from C-USA, MAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt or WAC will earn an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game if either: A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or, B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls. "

after the slotted teams, the the orange, fiesta and sugar take turns selecting the first at large team to their bowl.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

It should be:

Alabama vs. TCU
Florida vs. Cincinnati
Boise State vs. Texas
Georgia Tech vs. Iowa
Oregon vs. Ohio State

Of course, we should have a playoff, so...

after the slotted teams, the the orange, fiesta and sugar take turns selecting the first at large team to their bowl.

So:
Sugar bowl gets the fists pick since they loose the SEC champ.
Fiesta gets the next pick since they loose the B12 champ.
Orange gets first pick.
Fiesta gets next pick.
Sugar gets what's left.

thus the assumption is that the bowls will be filled:
Sugar: Florida
Fiesta: B10 team
Orange: TCU
Fiesta: Boise State
Sugar: Cincinnati

That would give:
BCS National Championship Game - Alabama vs. Texas
Orange Bowl - Georgia Tech vs. TCU
Sugar Bowl - Florida vs. Cincinnati
Fiesta Bowl - Iowa vs. Boise State

Yawn fest for all 5 games.
Rose Bowl - Oregon vs. Ohio State (obviously)
