Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

So not to sound like a broken record, but this weekend has to help Gerhart for the Heisman, right?

McCoy is definitely out, and Tebow wasn't that in but is out now. Ingram did OK but it depends how much Auburn sticks in people's minds. Spiller did very well, but I don't know if he had any really bad games that might hold him back.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

well the only replay i kept seeing was the clock superimposed over the ball going into the bench. i didn't see a shot of an official waving his arms.

They did show a replay with sound, and it's hard to say, but it seemed like the ref blew his whistle when the clock still said :01.

I think it's technically the correct call, but I will also say that just about every time there is an incomplete pass, one or two extra seconds ticks off the clock after the ball hits the ground. The only reason this was different is because the one extra second that the clock ran was the last second. Something seems wrong about that, even though (again) it is technically correct.

Won't keep the conspiracy idiots from running their mouths.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

If TCU beats Florida, I think we could see a split title.

If the Orange Bowl passes on Cincy and takes TCU that won't happen. If TCU beats Georgia Tech they will finish #2.

The Fiesta could also take TCU to play Iowa/Penn State. TCU vs. Boise State is not out of the question, but not likely.

The pecking order goes
Sugar (Florida)
Fiesta
Orange
Fiesta
Sugar

The only thing in favor of TCU going to the Sugar would be proximity, I think.

I think Ingram won the Heisman today. The invitees to NYC will probably be Ingram, Spiller, Gerhart and Tebow or McCoy. If they want some novelty, give it to Suh. The guy's a monster on defense.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

So we know the Rose Bowl will be Oregon/Ohio State.

Orange is tied in with Georgia Tech I believe. Wouldn't surprise me if Cincy ended up there also.

Fiesta is open as is the other half of the Sugar. So Penn State/Iowa/TCU/Boise are all clamoring for 3 spots.

I agree with Ingram getting over the hump to win. Guy had a phenomenal day today.

Good riddance Suh.

Penn State and Iowa are clamoring for one spot, only one can be selected as the 2nd Big Ten team who will get blown out in a BCS game along with Ohio State.

Can they involve four or does it have to be three?

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Well, theoretically, you have

Texas (B12) vs. Alabama (SEC)
Oregon (P10) vs. Ohio State (B10)

Orange automatically gets Georgia Tech (ACC)
My guess

Sugar (1)- Florida (At-large)
Fiesta (2)- Big Ten team #2 , say Iowa for argument's sake (at-large)

This is where things get interesting. Cincy was just in Miami last year. TCU has trouble selling out their home 50k seat stadium. As far as the last at-large spot, it's Boise by default, with Virginia Tech and BYU being the only other options. From the Orange Bowl's point of view, I don't think any of those three teams look all that attractive. I have no idea what they'll do.

They can invite as many as they want. Last year they didn't invite the kid from Texas Tech because he finished so far back. They'll invite the top three or four vote-getters, depending on the totals.

If Miami cracks the top 14, they could look mighty attractive to the Orange Bowl.

I know...they don't deserve it, but they'll sell a crapload of tickets.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Other bowl of intrigue is the Gator Bowl. They are trying to get permission from the ACC to invite FSU. They have a Big East/Big 12/Notre Dame tie-in for the other team.

But i'd like to see them invite Miami as well. That would only be fitting for Bowden to lose to his biggest rival in his last game ever. :D

Instead it will probably be a Pittsburgh or Nebraska.

Next year the Gator Bowl will switch affiliation to SEC vs Big Ten.

Uh. No.

1) They won't reach 14 since no one in the top 14 lost aside from Florida.

2) Miami already played Georgia Tech.

3) No bowl in their right mind wants a conference rematch in a bowl game.

He just lost to his biggest rival in his last regular season game. I don't think they're getting an invite to the Sugar.

I'd guess Pitt over Nebraska, who I suspect will end up in either the Cotton or the Holiday. Probably more likely Cotton.

Mark May "This is the matchup America has been waiting for."

Regarding Texas vs Alabama being a forgone conclusion.

Really? I'm an American, and I wasn't waiting for that matchup. Infact I would prefer almost any other matchup instead of that.
