College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Michigan 14, Iowa 13 - 2nd Quarter

Hawkeyes just kicked a field goal after surprisingly NOT challenging a ruled incomplete pass at the five yard line that would have given them first and goal. Sure looked like on replay that their receiver had his hands under the ball, and you could see the QB run the play clock down to one second hoping for an official review. Despite the lack of review, a bit surprising they didn't use the challenge flag there.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Line judge who called that bogus O-PI against Seattle in the Super Bowl, now THAT is offensive PI.

How the heck did that FL player get away with that.

3rd and LONG for Iowa and another blown stop for Michigan gave the Hawkeyes 1st and goal and they ran it in. U-M's defense has sucked on third downs all season.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Dammit  Michigan is killing themselves with turnovers. Forcier just completed a big 35 yard pass to the Iowa 35, then Brandon Minor follows up with a lost fumble. 1:20 left in the half.

I enjoy a little ref-bashing from time to time, but LSU needs to either make a statement in the 2nd half...or go away.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Well, Iowa seemed content on running out the clock, but Michigan decided to call a time out with 3rd and 10 and 27 seconds left. And, naturally, their defense couldn't stop Iowa on third down...again...and now the Hawkeyes have driven to the Michigan 32 with three seconds left and are going for the field goal... well, make that the 37 yard line after a delay of game penalty... and it's no good. U-M got greedy trying to get the ball back with a few seconds left and it almost cost them some points.

Half time... Iowa 20, Michigan 14. U-M gets the ball to start the 3rd quarter.

Wisconsin rolled OSU, but....

We watched different games then. Tolzien threw 45 times to get the yards he did and UW averaged 2.7 yds per run. As I said, if OSU had any consistency with their offense then those turnovers wouldn't have even mattered.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

There's absolutely no defense being played in Tallahasse, and LSU looks like a totally undisciplined football team, a really poor top-five team.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Good call on the bounce-catch @ LSU.

And UF misses the extra point FG! Well, there's a break for ya, LSU.

And Wisconsin's defense didn't have anything to do with that inconsistency?

Tolzien did throw 45 times, but UW ran 90 some plays. Aside from the interceptions and the KO return, UW played well enough to win. That's what makes it so frustrating. The errors were largely self-inflicted, too.

My Vandals are putting together a pretty good season for them- they just finished off San Jose State with a TD in the last min of the game.

Although, watching the game, it's not like this 5-1 team is really that good... But, gotta be optimistic- perhaps they can get a bowl bid. Some minor week before Christmas bowl.

I was out this evening, was that QB dude from Florida able to play tonight, I hadn't heard. ;)

Me neither, you would think ESPN would tell us these things like on the 8's like the Weather Channel. ;)

Am I the only one who wished LSU would have ripped his head clean off?

You had to assume the ESPN guys would be in full Save Bobby mode during last night's FSU-GTech game, and they did not disappoint. Of course, what we saw was probably one of the five worst FSU defensive performances since 1985, and at the end they sounded like they'd lost a favorite uncle. After all, he only makes about $2 million a year -- why should there be standards surrounding his job performance? He should just be able to keep taking that money every year.

Jackets!

That was a pleasant surprise this morning.

That game pretty much convinced me that Bobby won't be back after this season.

Mickey Andrews (DC) had to be begged to come back this year after some health issues and his son dying in 2007, and his heart obviously isn't in it. He's always been a screaming, fiery guy, and that ain't happening.

Bobby wants to promote Chuck Amato, former NCSU coach, the current linebackers coach and #2 in the current hierarchy, but no one else wants him to have the job. The school on some level thinks that at this point, Fisher should pick the new DC, since Fisher would just fire Amato a year later when he theoretically would take over in 2011.

All that's moot now since there's already some level of rumbling in Tallahassee. Miami and Florida are top ten teams, South Florida is obviously better, and FSU is staring a 3 or 4 win season in the face. The killing blow will be on November 28th, when an undefeated and top ranked Florida team pounds FSU 63-3 in Gainesville. (It was 42-12 last year at home with a better defense)

After that, the boosters will probably be in full riot, and thank Bowden for taking this team from the garbage heap to the mountain top, and pressure to decline to renew his contract for taking them back to the garbage heap will mount. His decisions to put his family and long time friends in positions they don't deserve will have finally pushed everyone over the brink.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Notre Dame's Michael Floyd could play again by November. Interesting stat there in the article too showing just how important he can be when trying for the long throw.

Also good to see a few other injured players will likely be ready to go against USC.
