College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

True enough, but still, pretty weak sauce out of Texas.

That's how you win in the BCS era. Play your conference slate and schedule 4 home games against the Sun Belt or Division I-AA teams. Non-conference games like USC-Ohio State will be few and far between. NC SoS used to mean something, but not anymore.

bueller, re: rep

I have the research on another PC, but forget November. I don't think the SEC has come north of the Mason-Dixon after mid-September - and that was quite a while ago, if memory serves. LSU traveled to Washington to begin this season, but I don't think the SEC has come North since the days of segregation.

The Trifecta!

If the Red Wings can win, it would complete the Superfecta.

Navy wasting no time and accepts their bid to the Texas Bowl about 20 minutes after the win.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Right about now the SEC Commissioner is on the phone to the replay booth to remind them to make sure Alabama wins.

Edit: The prosecution rests.

So, essentially it's the winner of Florida/Alabama vs. Texas for the BCS Title.

*yawn* Yep. The only drama left is will Boise State and TCU both go undefeated, and which team will get shafted by the BC$.

I'm rooting for Cinci to win out and create a little more controversy for the title game. They have no chance of passing Bama/UF or Texas, but thats solely because the voters won't allow it.

I swear is it a god dam curse that whoever beats USC promptly loses the next week?

ESPN really needs to provide subtitles when Lou Holtz speaks.

Pretty much. The SEC plays 11 1-AA teams and 14 BCS teams this year in 48 games.

Of those 14 BCS teams, the 3 ACC-SEC rivalry games are included

Georgia-Georgia Tech
South Carolina-Clemson
Florida-Florida State

Which basically means that the SEC is just as likely to play a 1-AA team as a BCS team. Figures.

Another fun fact about the Gators is that they dropped Miami back in the 80's because of "scheduling conflicts" which happened to coincide with the rise of the 'Canes. A threat to drop FSU was countered by a threat by some state legislators offering to cut some funding and/or make it a game required by law. The Gators then scheduled Miami a couple times early this decade, but then said they could only consider it in seasons that 12 games were allowed to be scheduled. Now that 12 games are allowable every year, suddenly those Charleston Southern games are still too important to drop.

Pansies.

I'm sick of Florida, and Texas for that matter. I hope Alabama gets it.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Maybe the Heisman the announcers were discussing for Clausen was a bit premature

37-51, 452 yards, 2 TDs, and the one INT was a throw right on the money to Floyd where his back was to it because he missed a signal for the play call.

So no, I wouldn't say it's premature at all. Clausen was and still should be the front-runner, unless possibly it's Tate instead (9-132 and a TD, plus the onside kick recovery after the safety).

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

And bye bye Charlie. Another wasted coach hire for Notre Dame.

Wasted? That's ridiculous. Charlie rescued the team from the Willingham abyss. He may not meet expectations, but he'll leave the program in much better shape than it was when he came in.
