College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

Re: College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

What's more annoying each year, people propping up Duke or people always whining about Duke?

Perhaps it is people whining about other people having opinions about Duke? Just a thought.

So people whining about Dick Vitale's opinions about Duke would count under that, correct?

Since I didn't mention or reference Dickie V, I have no issue with you including 'those people' in your definition of whiners. ;)

Re: College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

Yup, heard it on Mike and Mike. And you know it's only because his beloved Duke has to face a tougher team.

The funny thing about it is that I was thinking the night before about how there's probably some tools at Duke or WVU posting on their message boards about how it's unfair the two best teams have to play each other. Of course it would be the biggest Duke fan out there that comes up with it.

I don't see how he can go out week after week yelling at the NCAA to not ruin the tournament by expanding it to make some extra dough, while he wants to ruin the tournament aspect of it by re-seeding the Final Four. While we're at it, why not re-seed after each round? Just have host cities with two or three arenas and put a whole region there, or better yet, put two or three courts into a football stadium.

The reseeding subject comes up all the time, it has nothing to do with Duke.

Shhhh. They have to feed their irrational fear of Duke with something

Good point...for some reason everyone hates Duke but loves North Carolina...must be because Dean Smith usually found a way to not win it all unlike Coach K ;)

It's probably because Duke is always on NCAA probation. And they are the epitome of a one-and-done university. Have they even had a player stay four years?

Or because none of his players ever graduate...I say cheer for West Virginia and Bob Huggins and his 0% failure rate! (failure to finish school that is)

A moment of silence for the NCAA men's basketball tournament

Can't wait to see the 8th place SEC team and the 11 place Big East team in the next edition. Should be awesome. Except I likely won't be watching.

Agree - the point of the first round is to see David and Goliath...not David vs. David for a chance to play Goliath...can't see people taking the day off to watch William and Mary play Northwestern.

I guess I'll end up watching the later rounds but count me out for the play in round.

And, this will take the excitement out of Championship week, now none of the conference championship games will mean anything.

Interesting. What I hadn't considered before was how well the tournament breaks down over the three weekends Thurs-Sun schedule. Would you play the first round of play in games (and there would likely be 32 contests) on the Tues and Weds? What about those student athletes we hear so much about and their precious book learnin' time when the spector of a College Football Playoff needs to be put down? People are also far less likely to sit around in bars, restaurants, living rooms, etc. getting drunk and watching basketball on a Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun night.

Re: College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

Anyone see the presser yesterday when a reporter asked the NCAA spokesman:
"Why, if you are so concerned about a playoff interfering with academics in football, would you adopt a new tournament schedule that takes kids away from class longer than they already are for basketball?"
Spokesman just sat there and acted like he didn't understand the question.

And how in the world can they come up with the conclusion that a 96 team tournament works better than a 68 team tournament? All that would need to happen is take the Tuesday in Dayton and turn it into a full day event with four play-in games for the four 16 seeds.

I've always thought that the fact that it is basketball takes the excitement out of championship week.
